Chris Wilcox, who recently completed his fourth season in the National Basketball Association, will hold the Chris Wilcox Youth Basketball Camp in Whiteville, running next Monday through Friday. The former Whiteville High All-Stater, who went on to help lead the University of Maryland to the 2002 NCAA championship, will conduct the clinic at the Whiteville High School gym and the Whiteville Recreation Center. Registration forms can be obtained at Whiteville High School and the Whiteville Recreation Department. Glenn McKoy, who recently retired as WHS boys basketball coach after 27 seasons, will again be the camp’s chief director. On Saturday, July 31, the Chris Wilcox 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held for youth and adult teams. Entry fee will be $100 per adult team and $50 per high school and youth team The 6-foot-10 Wilcox was the first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2002 NBA draft. This past season, he was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics and finished with his best season to date. Wilcox was a two-year starter at center for the Whiteville High School basketball team and he led the Wolfpack to the 1999 state 2A championship as a junior. He transfered to Raleigh’s Enloe High School for his senior year and he signed with Maryland following the 2000 season. After showing flashes of brilliance as a freshman, Wilcox came on strong as a sophomore to help boost Coach Gary Williams’ Terrapins to their national championship season. Two months later, he was drafted by the Clippers. |
