Filing for three seats on the Columbus County Board of Education opened Friday.

The seats of District 2 Board Member Bill Johnson, District 3 Board Member Ricky Bullard and District 4 Board Member Dale Ward expire this year.

Johnson and Ward are expected to file for re-election. Bullard, who won the Democrat Primary race for Columbus County Commissioner, is not re-filing for his seat.

Potential candidates have until Aug. 7 to file.

Potential candidates for the Whiteville City Schools Board of Education may begin filing July 10. They have until Aug. 14.

Terms expiring this year belong to District 1 board members Carlton Prince, at-large board member and chairman LaDeen Powell and District 2 board member Dave Flowers.

All three are expected to file for re-election.

Filing fee for the county and city board seats is $61. (Fuller Royal)
