OBITUARIES

THELMA A. JAMES

ASH – Thelma Alene James, 88, died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at Brunswick Cove Nursing Center, Leland.

Final rites were held Saturday, June 24 at Little Prong Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Frink officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Smith Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

She is survived by her children, Lucille Bryant of Supply, and Videll James of Ash; a sister, Estella Collins of Ash.

RICHARD U. WEATHERS
Janitor and veteran

COUNCIL – Richard U. Weathers, 77, died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Weathers was a janitor and a veteran of the United States Army.

Final rites were held Saturday, June 24 at First Baptist Church in Abbottsburg by the Rev. Leonard Royal. Burial followed in the Pone Cemetery in Abbottsburg. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Weathers; four sons, George Leach of Alexandria, Va., Richard Weathers Jr. of Massachusetts, Allen Weathers of California, and Larry Weathers of Charlotte; a daughter, Charlene Jones of Massachusetts; a sister, Hallie Me Faulkner of Greensboro.

RUFUS LEE THOMAS

CHADBOURN – Rufus Lee Thomas, 69, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville.

Thomas was a native of Robeson County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Prentice Edward and Hettie Mercer Thomas.

Graveside services were held Saturday, June 24 at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton conducted by the Rev. Jeff Broadwell. McNeill Funeral Home of St. Pauls handled the arrangements.

Survivors include a brother, Purvis E. Thomas of Lumberton; two sisters, Joyce T. Broadwell of St. Pauls, and Allie F. Jones of Southern Pines.

WILLIAM T. WOOTEN
Farmer, mason and veteran

CLARKTON – William Troy Wooten, 78, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at Bladen County Hospital, Elizabethtown.

Wooten was a farmer, mason and veteran of the United States Army.

Final rites were held Sunday, June 25 at True Vine Holiness Church by Pastor Luell Campbell. Burial followed in Pilgrim Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Mae Wooten; three daughters, Brenda Adams, Edith Wooten, and Forrest Wooten, all of Clarkton; a son, William T. Wooten Jr. of St. Pauls; six sisters, Ruth Lennon and Eunice Virgil, both of Bladenboro, Ethyl Barnes of Wilson, Rosa Lee Wooten of Lumberton, Hazel Kelly of Elizabethtown, and Loris Hawkins of Voorhees, N.J.; three brothers, Oscar James Wooten, Gilbert Wooten, and William Wooten Jr., all of Lumberton.

JAMES ROY STANLEY

CHADBOURN – James Roy Stanley Sr., 92, died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at Lake Waccamaw Senior Living Facility. He was the son of the late James Council Stanley and Jane Flora Currie Stanley and was preceded in death by his wife, Josie Irene Stanley, and a brother, J.R. Stanley Jr. He was a member of Clarendon Baptist Church.

Final rites were held Sunday, June 25 at McKenzie Mortuary with the Rev. Ray Best officiating. Burial followed in Columbus Memorial Park. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

Survivors include a sister, Ruby Stanley Hughes of Clarendon; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Advantage Hospice at 613 S. Madison St., Whiteville, N.C. 28472.

LOUISE GRAHAM

LORIS, S.C. – Louise Graham, died Friday, June 23, 2006 in Loris Healthcare. She was born in Horry County, S.C. on Oct. 9, 1928, the daughter of the late Major D. and Grace Prince Strickland.

She was a member of Dogwood Hill Baptist Church and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Final rites were held Sunday, June 25 at Dogwood Hill Baptist Church, conducted by the Reverends Alvin Jackson and Donnie Graham, with interment following in the Princeville Cemetery, Loris, S.C. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Hubert B. Graham of the home; three sons, Ronnie B. Graham of Tabor City; Ricky W. Graham and Randy L. Graham, both of Loris, S.C.; three sisters, Mildred Stalworth of Byron, Ga., Elsie Kear of Moncks Corner, S.C., and Jewell Lewis of Hopkins, S.C.; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

BILLY RAY BROWNLEE

FAIR BLUFF – Billy Ray Brownlee, 39, died Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Southeastern Regional Healthcare in Lumberton.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff.

Family will receive friends at the home of Crystal Brownlee, 2029 Main Street, River Bluff Apts., Apt. 202, Fair Bluff.

GEORGE W. McKOY
Truck driver

CLARKTON – George Walter McKoy, 68, died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at his residence. He was a truck driver.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Corey Blanks. Burial will follow in Holy Bethel Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Mary McKoy; four daughters, Barbara McKoy of Clarkton, Sharon McKoy-Clark of Council, Sherry Champbell and Georgia Powell, both of Hope Mills; a son, Willie McKoy of Newark, N.J., and Lacy McKoy of Paterson, N.J.

Viewing will be at the funeral home on Monday, June 26 from noon until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon. Viewing will be held at the church Tuesday following the service.
