WASHINGTON, D.C. Laurene Davis, 63, formerly of Whiteville, died Sunday, June 25, 2006. She was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Rosie Davis of Whiteville.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 3 at Friendship Baptist Church in Whiteville with the Rev. Algernon McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow in the Millican Cemetery in Whiteville. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Viewing will be held at Peoples Funeral Home in Whiteville on Sunday, July 2 from 2-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 30, from 6-9 p.m. at Johnson & Jenkins Funeral Home, 716 Kennedy Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
WHITEVILLE Frances Rivenbark Spivey, 85, died Monday, June 26, 2006 at her residence. She was born Oct. 23, 1920 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Charles and Maggie Fisher Rivenbark. She had two special sisters, Myrtle Harrell and Winkie Case who preceded her in death.
Spivey was an active and devoted member of Whiteville First Presbyterian Church. She was active in Sunday school, Church Circle No. 3 and received the Honorary Life Membership Award for Presbyterian Women. She was involved in scouting, having served as a Den Mother and Girl Scout leader; she was active in her garden club and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She graduated from New Hanover High School and UNC-Greensboro. Spivey worked for Moore’s Tobacco Warehouse business office and was the accountant for her family business, Whiteville Body Shop for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at Ocean Isle Beach.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 29 at Whiteville First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Josh Bower officiating. Burial will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Richard C. Spivey; two sons, William Michael Spivey and wife Laura of Whiteville, Richard C. Spivey Jr. of Camden, N.Y., and a daughter, Jeanne Faust and husband Lee of Punta Gorda, Fla.; grandchildren of “Mama Frances” are Jason Klara, Will Spivey, Susan S. King, Zach Spivey, Coleman Spivey, Jonathan Spivey, Christopher Spivey, Ryan Spivey and Kayla Spivey; great-grandchildren are Cole and Allysa Spivey, John Coleman and Luke King; and several nieces and nephews.

WHITEVILLE John Russell McQueen, 75, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late J.W. McQueen and Margaret Harrelson McQueen and was a member of the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church and a retired farmer.
Final rites were held Thursday, June 29 at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church with Dr. Dave Heller officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen P. McQueen of Whiteville; two sons, Barry McQueen of Whiteville, and Gary McQueen of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Mary Frances Journigan of Whiteville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Building Fund.
FAIR BLUFF Billy Ray Brownlee, 39, died Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Southeastern Regional Healthcare in Lumberton.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 30 at Butler Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Fair Bluff with the Rev. Ronald Alford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Marshanika Pettiway of Smithfield; six sisters, Ruth Jones of Philadelphia, Pa., Shelia Hardee of Duford, S.C., Mamie Ruth Brownlee of Daytona Beach, Fla., Sheryl Pearson and Mae Frances Pearson, both of Fairmont, and Diane Brownlee of Fair Bluff; two brothers, Jimmy Brownlee of Fair Bluff, and Naamon Brownlee of Philadelphia, Pa.

WHITEVILLE Dorothy Joan Watts Cain, 79, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. She was a native of Norwich, England and was the daughter of the late Percy Alexander and Florence Mortimore Watts.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 30 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Whiteville with the Rev. Kate Rascoe officiating. Interment will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel Ernest Cain of the home; four daughters, Susan Sanford of Raleigh, Janet Grimsley of Spartanburg, S.C., Mary Moody, and Audrey Fisher, both of Whiteville; a son, Samuel Ernest Cain Jr. of Whiteville; two sisters, Barbara Chamberlain and Evelyn Hogg, both of Norwich, England; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 29 at the funeral home.

CLARKTON Luther Wake Webb, 44, final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Zion Tabernacle Church, 2143 Jenkins Road, with the Pastor Gloria Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Field Cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
He was a farm laborer.
Survivors include his wife, Rositta Webb; his father, Dallie Luther Webb of the home; two brothers, Larry Webb and Virgil Pigford; and a sister, Madyes Goins.
Viewing will be held Friday, June 30 from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
OLD DOCK Wilfred Ross died Thursday, June 29, 2006 at his residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Peacocks Chapel In The Pines, Whiteville.
RIEGELWOOD Rosa Lee Malpass Moore, 91, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at Mariner Health of Wilmington.
Moore was born Oct. 8, 1914 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Lucas L. Malpass and Loren Lula Grice Malpass. Her husband, David Lawrence Moore, several brothers and sisters, and one grandson, John David Moore, preceded her in death.
She was an unselfish person. She loved people and traveling. Also she loved gardening and flowers, as well as crocheting and other crafts. She and her husband, Lawrence, farmed for many years until his death. She later became an Eldercare sitter for more than 25 years. She was a former matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
The family will hold a private burial, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1 at the First Baptist Church of Delco with the Rev. Martin Benton officiating. Andrews Mortuary of Wilmington is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by her son, David Earl Moore and wife Agnes Anne of Riegelwood; her daughter, Louise Jarrell and husband Billy of Wilmington; two grandsons, Donald Jarrell and wife Maryann and Earl Moore and wife Kaye, all of Riegelwood; a granddaughter, Tammy Cheers and husband Craig of Wilmington; four great-grandchildren, Amy and Matthew Jarrell, Weston Moore and Emily Cheers; two sisters, Verna Gainey and Evelyn Dale; two brothers, Winfred Malpass and Alfred Malpass; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday, June 30 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington.
Pallbearers will be Donald and Matthew Jarrell, Earl and Weston Moore, Craig Cheers, and Dwayne Johnson.
