OBITUARIES
MAXINE E. LINDSAY

ELIZABETHTOWN – Max-ine Evers Lindsay, 75, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at the home of daughter. She was the daughter of the late David Floyd Evers and Alvenia Guyton Evers.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 17 at Center Road Baptist Church in Bladenboro with the Rev. Vernon Britt officiating. Burial will follow in New Pait Cemetery in Bladenboro. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, James L. Lindsay Jr. and Thomas W. Lindsay; a daughter, Donna L. McBride; a brother, David M. Evers; a half-brother, McCrae Evers; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 16 from 7-9 p.m.

Flowers will be appreciated or donations made to Advantage Hospice, P.O. Box 1960, Elizabethtown, N.C. 28337.

 

RENA L. ROBINSON
Tobacco contractor

CLARENDON – Rena Lee Robinson, 87, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was a tobacco contractor.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 16 at First Baptist Church in Clarendon by the Rev. William R. Nesbitt. Burial will follow in the Belvue Cemetery in Chadbourn. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Ella Queen Stevenson of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Virginia Chestnut of Clarendon; and a brother, Willie McDuffie of Durham.

Viewing will be at the church Thursday from 1-2 p.m.  and again following the service.

Friends may visit the family at the home of Virginia Chestnut, 1611 Carl Stephens Road, Clarendon.

 

NANCY S. WATTS
Co-owner/secretary of Jerry’s Garage

TABOR CITY – Nancy Soles Watts, 72, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at her residence. She was born in Columbus County, the daughter of the late C.M. Soles Jr. and Letha Soles Soles. She was co-owner/secretary of Jerry’s Garage.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 17 at Westside Baptist Church, conducted by the Reverends Kenneth Smith and Jeff Stocks. Burial will follow in Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry W. Watts of Tabor City; a son, Michael Watts of Brandon, Fla.; and two granddaughters.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 16 from 7-9 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church, Tabor City.

 

RUBY P. HALL

WHITEVILLE – Ruby Pridgen Hall, 92, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at her residence. She was the widow of Robert Erwin Hall and the daughter of the late Swift Ernest and Pearlie Mae Walker Pridgen.

Services were conducted at her home with the Rev. Charles Hester officiating. Interment followed in the Bethel Cemetery, Whiteville. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. John M. Hall, and James A. Hall, both of Clarkton; two brothers, Wilbur J. Pridgen of Whiteville, and Ralph Pridgen of Whiteville; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Eastern N.C. Chapter, 400 Oberlin Road, Suite 220, Raleigh, N.C. 27605-1351.

 

KATHLEEN W. WARD

CHADBOURN – Kathleen W. Ward, 75, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Tom Lupo and Mortie Mae Register Ward.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 17 at Worthington Funeral Home with the Reverends Willard McPherson and Terry York officiating. Interment will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

She is survived by a son, Carl Daniel Ward of Chadbourn; a daughter, Debbie Kay Hamilton of Whiteville; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

 

LIZZIE B. JOLLY

CARROLLTON, Va. – Lizzie Britt Jolly, 93, formerly of Chadbourn, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Coliseum Park Nursing Home in Hampton, Va. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Lavinia Hinson Britt and the widow of Elbert Devon Jolly.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19 at Worthington Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse P. Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

She is survived by a son, Mike L. Jolly of Carrollton, Va.; two sisters, Mary Faye Strickland of Niagara Falls, Canada and Effie Mae Horne of Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at the funeral home.

 

L. BELLE SIMMONS

OLD DOCK – Louie Belle Simmons, 95, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006. She was born Oct. 18, 1910 in South Carolina, the daughter of the late Madison E. and India Ella Proctor Hughes. She was the widow of Kivie M. Simmons. She was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines of Whiteville.

Survivors include a son, K.M. Simmons of Old Dock; a daughter, Loudella Simmons Babson of Ash; a brother, Leroy Hughes of Whiteville; five grand-children, eight great-grand-children, and one great-great-grandchild.

 

DAVID E. GRAHAM

WHITEVILLE – David Earl Graham, 57, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was born Aug. 31, 1948, the son of the late James G. and Irene Thompson Graham.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Peacocks Chapel In The Pines of Whiteville.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Long Graham; three daughters, Christy Edmondson of the home, Karen Allen of Loris, S.C., and Kimberly Canady of Greensboro; a brother, Gordon Graham of Whiteville; two sisters, Geneva Thompson of Whiteville; Mary Hensley of Whiteville; and five grandchildren.

 

VIRGINIA R. POPE

HALLSBORO – Virginia R. Pope, 85, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Silver Stream Healthcare in Wilmington.
