| SCHS tops WCHS in softball opener CERRO GORDO - Ashley Hardee pitched a no-hitter while striking out 13 batters and Kelly Strickland ripped a two-run homer Tuesday in the South Columbus Lady Stallions’ 14-0 season-opening softball victory over the host West Columbus Lady Vikings. The game was halted after six innings by the 10-run rule. Tori Stocks, Courtney Long, Joye Buffkin and Yolanda McCoy each had two hits for the Vikings and Lydia Walters had a double. Coach Brett Burroughs’ Lady Stallions scored at least one run in every inning, closing things out with five runs in the sixth. Patricia Jenkins had the only hit for West Columbus, a sixth inning single. West Columbus pitcher Caroline Newman struck out 13 batters.
