Whiteville Country Club plays host to conference golf match

It was an overcast and dreary afternoon at Whiteville Country Club Monday when six Waccamaw Conference golf teams met for a nine-hole match.

Defending conference champion South Brunswick gained an easy victory with a 160 team total while host Whiteville High came in second with a 176 total to edge out South Columbus’ 178. East Columbus took fourth place with a 187 followed by Pender at 213 and North Brunswick with a 214.

East Columbus’ Matt Robinson claimed medalist honors with a 38 for a two-stroke edge over each of the four South Brunswick golfers. Whiteville’s Donald Viets and South Columbus’ Michael Hewitt each had a 41. Whiteville’s Josh Kramer had a 43.
