The Columbus Youth Athletic Association 18-Under All-Stars came away with their second straight Statewide Athletic Committee state basketball title last Saturday at Charlotte’s Sugaw Creek Center.

The CYAA squad defeated Kinston 56-53 in Saturday morning’s semi-final play and came back Saturday evening to defeat host Mecklenburg County 75-61.

“It is a special feeling,” said Rev. C.L. McMillan, the team’s coach as well as founder of CYAA. “It’s good to see young men from different parts of the county come together and play so well. We have some of the best basketball talent in the state and I’m glad to be part of it.”
