ETHEL LEE POWELL HUNT
WHITEVILLE Ethel Lee Powell Hunt, 90, died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at her residence. Born in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late James Roland Powell and Amy Elizabeth Simmons Powell. She was the widow of Donald Ray Hunt.
Final rites were held Wednesday, March 8 at the Inman Chapel, conducted by the Reverends David Todd and Wayne Simmons. Interment followed in the Todd Cemetery, Clarendon. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Dalma Bullock and husband J.C. of Clarendon; Linda Jordan and husband Clint of Riegelwood; two sons, James Wilton Hunt Sr. of Whiteville, and Ronald T. “Sam” Hunt and wife Peggy of Riegelwood; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 10 great - great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Hunt.

WHITEVILLE Eddie Winslow McMillan, 45, died Monday, March 6, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was a telemarketer.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at Peoples Funeral Chapel in Whiteville by the Rev. Magdalene Leach. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his mother, Hazel S. McMillan of the home; three sisters, Franzetia McMillan and Demaris McMillan, both of Whiteville; and Barbara McMillan of New York; two brothers, Joseph Kenneth McMillan of Shallotte, and Paul Lorenzo McMillan; his maternal grandfather, Edward Shipman of Whiteville.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until time for the service. There will be no viewing after the service.

Retired deputy sheriff, Mason
WHITEVILLE Laconya Reeves, 87, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at Liberty Commons.
Reeves was a retired deputy sheriff, 33º Mason of Everready Lodge, Allen-Mingo Consistory, Ouda Temple, church deacon, and trustee.
Final rites were held Wednesday, March 8 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Algernon McKenzie. Burial with Masonic rites, followed in Millican Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Reeves of Liberty Commons; a daughter, Ruth Christine Carr of Hallsboro; two sisters, Ruth Baldwin and Mable Artis of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Wilton Reeves of Huntington, N.Y.
NAKINA Ralph Ernest Reynolds, 55, died Monday, March 6, 2006 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Ephriam Ernest Reynolds and Connie Cribb Reynolds.
Graveside services were held Thursday, March 9 at Oak Dale Cemetery in Loris, S.C., conducted by the Rev. Roger Small. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
He is survived by a son, Ralph E. Reynolds Jr. of Hallsboro; a daughter, Christine Reynolds of Whiteville; three sisters, Gray Long of Nakina, Barbara Causey of Loris, S.C., and Phyllis Prince of Tabor City; two brothers, Wallace Reynolds and David Reynolds, both of Nakina.
ELIZABETHTOWN Delcie Register Lewis, 90, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Bladen County Hospital. She was preceded in death by husband, Rev. Willie B. Lewis and a son, Tommy G. Lewis.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Elizabethtown Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverends Harold Hewett and Tommy Butler officiating. Burial will follow in the city cemetery. Kinlaw Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Eloise L. Butler of Elizabethtown; three sons, Willie C. Lewis of Fayetteville, Hubert B. Lewis and Jimmy D. Lewis, both of Elizabethtown; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

WHITEVILLE Anna Alberta Williams Pridgen, 83, died Monday, March 6, 2006 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Wade Hampton and Esther Mae Tyner Williams.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 7 at Bethel Church Cemetery in Whiteville. Worthington Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbur James Pridgen of the home; a son, Donald Jerry Pridgen of Whiteville; two daughters, Joann P. Pridgen and Kathy P. Cartrette, both of Whiteville; six grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

CHADBOURN Frank Daniel Ward, 80, died Tuesday, March 6, 2006 at his residence. He was the son of the late Robert Lee and Katie Campbell Ward.
Ward retired from Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock in 1986 after 30 years of employment. He will be remembered in the Chadbourn area for selling honey.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9 at Worthington Funeral Home with the Rev. Hubert Herring officiating. Interment will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

HALLSBORO Marion George Freeman, 58, died Monday, March 6, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was a logger.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Union Funeral Home of Whiteville.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie Elizabeth Freeman and a son, Elbert Livingston of the home.

WHITEVILLE Marshall Eugene Shepherd, 73, died Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Columbus Regional Health-care. He was born July 12, 1932 in Laurinburg. He was the widower of Darlene Shepherd.
Shepherd retired from Southeastern Community College working in the BLET department as an instructor, retired from the Greensboro Police Department, and served Town of Chadbourn as town manager for a period of time.
Final rites are incomplete and will be announced by Peacocks Chapel In The Pines in Whiteville.
Survivors include a son, Marshall E. Shephard Jr. of Greensboro; two daughters, Vickie S. Pait of Whiteville, and Denise Shepherd of Fayetteville; and five granddaughters.
