Justin Rhodes walloped a grand slam home run in the bottom of the third inning to help lift the Waccamaw Academy Warriors to an 8-5 baseball victory over Village Christian Academy of Fayetteville.

Rhodes also had a triple and a single for the Warriors, who put their season record at 2-1. Coach Robbie Allen’s Warrior squad is traveling to Sampson County today for a 3:30 p.m., matchup with longtime rival Harrells Christian Academy.

Winning pitcher Kyle Hufham, who relieved Rhodes in the top of the third, added two hits and Grayson Graham also had two hits.

Village Christian held a 3-1 lead before Rhodes delivered his grand slam. The Fayetteville squad tied the score with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth before the Warriors scored three in the bottom of the fifth.
