| Knights explode past Gators 17-7 LAKE WACCAMAW Runs definitely came in spurts Friday night at the East Columbus High baseball field. Huge spurts. The host ECHS Gators took a 6-0 lead in the first inning before the West Bladen Knights gained the lead in the top of the third inning with a nine-run explosion. East Columbus added a run in the bottom of the sixth to trail 9-7, but West Bladen came across with eight runs in the top of the seventh to run off with a 17-7 victory. East Columbus fell victim to 10 errors in the loss. East Columbus, which had opened its season a week earlier with a 7-5 road win over West Bladen, saw its season record drop to 1-2. East Columbus chalked up 11 hits in the loss, including three by Demetrious McKelvie and two by Jonathan “Earl” Reaves. Sweeney and Brisson each had three hits for West Bladen. The win put the Knights’ season record at 2-1. East Columbus played Wednesday at West Brunswick.
