BOILING SPRING LAKES - The East Columbus High softball team remained in the thick state 1A playoff hunt Tuesday by taking a 2-1 Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference softball win over host South Brunswick.

The result left both teams with 7-4 conference records. The win gave the Lady Gators a sweep of the Lady Cougars in conference play.
Jena Britt was the winning pitcher in relief of Jessica McPherson.

The Lady Gators got the game-deciding run the fourth inning when Tiffany Ellis hit a one-out triple and scored on wild pitch.

East Columbus scored the game’s first run in the third inning when Caitlin Lane led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice by Hannah Proctor and scored on a single by Morgan Patrick.

South Brunswick scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lane and Sara Garrell each had two hits for Coach Larry Williams’ ECHS team.
