Lady Pack shuts out NB

The Whiteville Lady Wolfpack jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back Tuesday night as it ran to an impressive 8-0 shutout over North Brunswick in a Waccamaw 1A-2A softball game.

Kim Hathway went the distance on the mound, allowing only three hits for Coach Dudley Revels’ Lady Wolfpack, which put its conference record at 6-5.

Samantha Smith powered a solo home run over the fence in the fourth inning while Ashae Covington added two hits. Also getting WHS hits were Cara Evans, Emily Cole, Olivia Williams, Amanda Pope and Bethany Thurston.
North Brunswick had come into the game with an 8-3 conference record as it closed regular-season play with a loss.

The game marked the final WHS home game for seniors Bethany Thurston, Emily Cole, Cara Evans, Samantha Smith and Megan Storms.

Whiteville will close its season tonight when it is scheduled to travel to take on South Columbus at 7.
