Warriors to open playoffs Tuesday

With their eyes on a fourth straight state championship, the Waccamaw Academy Warriors will step into NCISAA 1A baseball playoff action Tuesday when they play host to Wayne Christian Academy of Goldsboro at 4 p.m.

Coach Robbie Allen’s Warriors, carrying a 13-13 record, received a bye in Friday’s opening round.

Wayne Christian (14-3) advanced with a 15-5 opening-round win over Hobgood on Friday.

A win on Tuesday would put the Warriors in this Friday’s semi-final game, which will be played at Wilson’s Fleming Stadium.

The championship round will be played Saturday at Fleming Stadium.

Last May, Waccamaw Academy served as host of the state semi-finals and finals as the Warriors defeated Lawrence Academy for the championship at Legion Stadium.

Allen has coached the Warriors to nine state titles since 1989.
