| Playoff effort Whiteville’s Ben Deans breaks out of the batter’s box after connecting with a pitch in Tuesday night’s state 2A baseball playoff game with East Duplin at Legion Stadium. Whiteville, the Waccamaw Conference co-champion, took a 2-0 victory over the Panthers on the three-hit pitching of junior righthander Robbie Penny. Whiteville, now holding a 15-9 season record, will make the four-hour jaunt to Edenton Friday to take on the Holmes High Aces in second round play. |
