Close play

Waccamaw Academy third baseman Seth Harrelson (left) takes a throw while Wayne Christian baserunner Tyler Thomas makes dive for the bag in Tuesday’s second-round action of the NCISAA state 1A baseball playoffs at Warrior Field. Thomas was ruled safe on the play. Waccamaw Academy won 5-0 behind the one-hit pitching of senior lefthander Dustin Williamson. Waccamaw Academy, the three-time defending state champion, is carrying a 14-13 record and will travel to Wilson Friday where it is scheduled to meet Wayne Country Day at 4 p.m. at Fleming Stadium. A semi-final win by the Warriors would put them in a best-of-three series with the Lawrence Academy-Shannon Forest Academy semi-final. The first game of the series is set for Friday at 7 p.m., with the second game scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday. A third game, if necessary, would begin on Saturday at 2 p.m. Coach Robbie Allen’s Warriors have won nine state titles since 1989.
