Football FRIDAY’S RESULTS Jacksonville Northside 14 Opening round, Opening round, Gators to The 2006-07 high-school basketball season in Columbus County will be inaugurated Tuesday when the East Columbus Gators play host to the East Bladen Eagles. The evening’s action will begin at 4 p.m., with the girls junior varsity game. The boys junior varsity game is set to begin at 5:30, followed by the varsity girls at 7 and varsity boys at 8:30. Wilcox watch Former Whiteville High basketball star Chris Wilcox pulled a pair of double-doubles in the Seattle SuperSonics back-to-back road victories over Charlotte and Orlando on Friday and Saturday. In the 99-85 victory played in front of many of his home-state fans in Charlotte, Wilcox had 12 points and 15 rebounds. In the 113-112 win at Atlanta, Wilcox had 12 points and 13 rebounds while playing 40 minutes. The Sonics take a 3-4 record into today’s game at New Jersey. Whiteville recreation Registrations are now underway for the 2007 Whiteville Youth Basketball League. The league is open to boys and girls of ages 5-12. League play will begin in January. Registration fee is $5 for city residents and $15 for non-city residents. Sign-ups for cheerleading is also underway with the above ages and registration fees applying. On this date Whiteville High School senior forward Joseph Thompson signs a national letter-of-intent to play college basketball at The Citadel. The 6-foot-4 Thompson, a four-year starter at WHS, is now heading into his senior season with the Citadel squad. |
