Basketball Tuesday’s results (Girls) McGlockton Former Whiteville High football All-American Chester McGlockton, who went on to earn All-ACC honors at Clemson and spent 12 seasons in the NFL, made a $50,000 donation to the West End Zone Initiative fund during special ceremonies at last Saturday’s Clemson-N.C. State football game. The funding will go toward planned renovations and additions to the west end of Clemson’s Memorial Stadium. During his NFL career, McGlockton, a defensive lineman, played for the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and New York Jets, earning a spot on the Pro Bowl roster four times. He was the Raiders’ first-round draft pick out of Clemson in 1992. As a senior at WHS, McGlockton paced the Wolfpack to the 1987 state 2A championship. Also last Friday at Clemson, Columbus Countians Robbie Allen, Chuck Baldwin and Henry Threadgill were among approximately 100 former Clemson baseball players who took part in the annual Tiger Alumni baseball game. All three were All-ACC infielders with the Tigers and Baldwin was the 2006 ACC Player of the Year. All three signed pro contracts out of Wilcox watch Former Whiteville High basketball star Chris Wilcox scored a season-high 22 points and had nine rebounds in the Seattle SuperSonics’ 119-113 National Basketball Association victory over the host New Jersey Nets Monday at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford. It marked the third straight win for the Sonics and evened their record at 4-4. The Sonics returned home from their five-game East Coast road trip to play the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night. On this date West Columbus High School senior running back James Martin carries the ball 31 times for 275 yards and all three touchdowns in leading Coach Jack Gaster’s Vikings to a 19-15 victory over host Southern Durham in the opening round of the state 3A high school football playoffs. Martin has a huge second half as the Vikings get the most out of their of their “Mule Train” offense to overcome a 15-8 halftime deficit. |
