Titans edge Vikings 85-82

CERRO GORDO - The visiting Trask Titans got some payback from a 100-90 season-opening homecourt loss to West Columbus by pulling out an 85-82 boys non-conference basketball win last Tuesday night on the Viking floor.

“We need to start making more stops on defense,” said Viking coach Michael Powell. “We’re giving up too many points. Trask has a good team but we need to improve a lot with our defense.”

West Columbus took the loss despite a 30-point effort by senior guard Chaz Everettte. Also scoring in double digits for the Vikings were Chris Smith with 14 points, Travis Leggett with 12 and Mikey Bilal with 11.

Trask, which led 48-45 at the half, was led by Montez Farrior’s 19 points. Jaquan Johnson had 17, followed by Rohntrez Farrior with 16 points and Kendall Landon with 11.

West Columbus will take its 1-1 record to Whiteville Tuesday night, where it will take on longtime rival WHS Wolfpack in a huge non-conference matchup.
