Wilcox watch

Former Whiteville High basketball star Chris Wilcox attained some personal satisfaction last Wednesday as the Seattle SuperSonics defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 95-85 on the Clippers’ homefloor. Wilcox, who played with the Clippers for 3-1/2 seasons after being their first-round draft pick in 2002, scored nine points and collected eight rebounds in his 13th straight start of the season. On Friday, the 6-foot-9 Wilcox pulled another double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds in a 109-100 road loss to Sacramento. On Sunday, the Sonics power forward was held to seven points and five rebounds in a 98-78 home loss to the San Antonio Spurs. The loss dropped the Sonics’ season record to 6-9. They will play host to Orlando Wednesday

Against a Fuquay-Varina defense that had held opponents to fewer than 90 yards rushing per game, Whiteville High junior running back Terry Paige turns in the greatest individual performance in Wolfpack football history when he rushes for 315 yards and all four touchdowns in a 26-8 thumping of the host Bengals for the Eastern N.C. Regional 2A championship. Paige’s TD runs include sprints of 85, 80 and 65 yards as Coach Frank Ciamillo’s Wolfpack puts its season record at 13-0.
