MEARL HEZEKIAH CRIBB
LINCOLNTON -- Mearl Hezekiah Cribb, 67, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville. Born July 1, 1939 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late William Thomas Cribb and the late Lona Mae Cribb Cribb. He was a member of Denver Baptist Church in Denver. In addition to his parents, one sister and five brothers preceded him in death.
Final rites were held Thursday, Nov. 30 at Denver Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Chris Griggs and Pastor Joey Denton officiating. Burial followed in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery in Charlotte. Burke Mortuary of Maiden handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol P. Cribb of the home; a son, William Cribb and wife, Kim of Lincolnton; a daughter, Cindy Cribb Byrun and husband, Marty of Clover, S.C.; three grandsons, Chase. Byrum, and Clayton Cribb; four granddaughters, Erin Byrum, Paxton Cribb, Kayla Childers, and Haley Childers; three brothers, Richard Cribb of Catawba, S.C.; John D. Cribb of Concord, and Travis Cribb of Longwood; a sister, Lucille C. Foley of Rock Hill, S.C.; an aunt, Della Singletary of Chadbourn.

SANDERFORD
WHITEVILLE -- Mazzalee Thurston Sanderford, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at Summit Place of North Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was the daughter of the late John Lonsdale Thurston and Birdie Snell Thurston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.R. (Andy) Sanderford, and three brothers, William, Kent, and Lonnie Thurston.
Sanderford was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Whiteville.
Final rites were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at First Presbyterian Church in Whiteville with the Rev. Josh Bower officiating with burial following in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary handled the arranements.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Gail Sanderford Church of Ocean Isle Beach; two nieces, Kaye Thurston Pope of Whiteville, and Diane Thurston of Lebanon, Tenn.; and a nephew, Ken Thurston of Whiteville.
Pallbearers were Ken Thurston, Chandler Thurston, David Goldston III, Thurston Pope, Ed Sanderford, and Jim Sanderford.

CLARKTON -- Lula Arnette Jones, 29, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at Duke Hospital, Durham.
Final rites will rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Booker T. Washington Gym. Pastor Betsy Leavens will deliver the eulogy; burial will follow in the Holy Bethel Cemetery, Clarkton. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, James Baldwin Jr.; three children, Jasmine Jones, Johnathan Baldwin, and Jahem Baldwin; mother, Mary Jones and her father, Willie Jones; a sister, Brenda Jones, and a brother Willie Jones Jr.
Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday from noon until 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9-11 a.m. and following the service.
WILMA S. GOLLINOTT
COUNCIL -- Wilma S. Gollinott, 93, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
She was predeceased by husband, Oscar W. Gollinot; a son, Keith W. Gollinott; and a sister, Ethel Weimar.
Services will be private. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is announcing for the family.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Pietrzak of Council; sisters, Charlotte Kittel, and Edna Akerly; and six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

WHITEVILLE -- Jerry Keith Ward, 55, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, here. He was the son of the late Dayton Franklin and Burnease Simmons Ward.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (today) at the Evans Cemetery, Whiteville with the Rev. Garland Suggs officiating. Worthington Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher Keith Ward of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Jason Apollo Ward of Whiteville; a brother, Dayton Franklin Ward Jr. of Whiteville and a sister, Letha W. Ward of Whiteville.

THOMPSON SR.
HALLSBORO -- William Henry “Bill” Thompson Sr., 84, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. He was the son of the late Roy S. Thompson and Clara Powell Thompson and was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Thompson, and a sister, Marylee T. Simmons.
Thompson was a life time member of the Hallsboro Baptist Church and was the youngest deacon every elected; he also was a Sunday school teacher; also a member of the Men’s Club and a past member of the Lake Waccamaw Lions Club. He was a founding member of the Hallsboro Volunteer Fire Department and was the first elected fire chief and was retired from Council Oil Company.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Hallsboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Vogt officiating. Burial will follow in the Pierce Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Council Thompson of Hallsboro; a son, William H. Thompson Jr. and wife Lynda F. Thompson of Hallsboro, and a daughter, Linda T. Fox and husband Edwin Fox Jr. of Whiteville; brothers, Lacy R. Thompson and wife Doris of Chadbourn, and Frank Thompson and wife Betty of Sanford; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be William Jolly, Joe Clemmons, Van Pierce, Ivan Wilson, James Council, and Jack Burchette.

HALLSBORO -- Lloyd Kemp Jr., 68, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at Wake Medical Center.
Final rites will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Mt. Hebron AME Zion Church by the Rev. Maria Lacewell. Burial will follow in the Hallsboro Memorial Park. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Anita Kemp; six daughters, Veda Clark of Hillsborough, Erica Suell of Leland, Jonathan Kemp of Hallsboro, Cynthia Hill of Bolton, Marlene Threatt of Virginia Beach, Va., and Chassity Kemp of Raleigh; four sons, Dennis Kemp of Hallsboro, Lloyd Kemp of Bolton, Timothy Kemp of Atlanta, Ga., and Keenan Kemp of Raleigh.
Viewing will be at the funeral home Friday from noon until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9-11 a.m. Viewing will be at the church Saturday from noon until 1 p.m. and again following the service.

CHADBOURN -- Hester Lee Babson Mercer, 85, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was the daughter of the late Lewis Shelton and Bessie Hinson Babson, and was the widow of Tommie Mercer.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverends William Jackie Godwin, Karl Zorowski, and Larry Shreve. Interment will follow in the Mercer Cemetery, Chadbourn. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelby Jean Garrell of Chadbourn, and Peggy Lou Patterson of Lake Norman; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

EVERGREEN -- Reba Davis Bartley, 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late George E. and Hattie Carter Davis and the widow of Dan C. Bartley Sr.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Evergreen Baptist Church with the Reverends Ricky Donaldson and Elmore Strickland officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Rachel Young Hill Tolleson, 86, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at Baptist Hospital, here. She was born in Hallsboro on Aug. 16, 1920, the daughter of the late Betty Needham Young Smith and Lawrence Young.
Tolleson, formerly of Sumter, S.C., had retired from Republic Contracting Corp as head bookkeeper and was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Columbia. She enjoyed playing bridge.
Final rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Greenlawn Funeral Home of Columbia, S.C. is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, George Rolland Tolleson Sr. of the home; siblings include Evelyn Calahan and Jimmy Smith of Calabash, and Jenny Jackson of Sumter, S.C., and Katherine Vercuski of Akron, Ohio; daughters, Betty Ray Hill and Phyllis Hill Mayfield of Charleston, S.C., and Connie Hill Caldwell of Columbia; sons, Chip Tolleson of Charlotte, Woody Tolleson of Little Rock, Ark., Andy Tolleson of Columbia, S.C., and Mike Tolleson of Denver, Colo; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dissy Hill McDaniel; a brother, Andrew Young; her sisters, Vera Ukleja, Betty Yow, Jane Poteat and and Sarah Smith.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday (tonight) at the funeral home.
