OBITUARIES
RUBY LANIER ROBERTS WILLIAMS

TABOR CITY – Ruby Lanier Roberts Williams, 86, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at MUSC Hospital in Charleston, S.C. She was born in Columbus County, the daughter of the late John Edward Lanier and Julia Powell Lanier.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 at Tabor City Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. David Coleman with interment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Don Williams of Tabor City; five daughters, Carolyn Cartrette of Columbia, Tenn., Gloria Hodge of Tabor City, Donna Matthews of Holden Beach, Denise Guyer of Purcellville, Va.; a son, David Williams of San Diego, Calif.; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grand-children; and a great-great-grandchild.

MABEL B. FRINK

ASH – Mabel B. Frink, 93, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at Brunswick Community Hospital, Supply.

Arrangements will be announced by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

RONNIE LEE COGDELL

WHITEVILLE – Ronnie Lee Cogdell, 51, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at Premier Living in Lake Waccamaw. He was a truck driver.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Zion Plain Missionary Baptist Church in Nakina by the Rev. Timothy Moss. Burial will follow in the New Zion Plain Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Surviving are two sons, Ronnie Lee Cogdell Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Sir Bass of Charlotte; his father and stepmother, John D. and Willa Dean Cogdell of Whiteville; three sisters, Anguelene Smith, Earlene Southern, and Vernice Jackson of Whiteville; two brothers, Mitchell Cogdell of Longwood and John D. Cogdell Jr. of Whiteville.

Viewing will be at the funeral home on Thursday (tonight) from noon until 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 until 11 a.m. Viewing will be at the church Friday following the service.

Friends may visit the family at the home of Earlene Southern, 495 Campground Road, Whiteville.

BEULAH MAE BLANKS

CLARKTON – Beulah F. Blanks, 73, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006 at Bladen County Hospital, Elizabethtown.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 at the Union Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Betty McKinney delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Clarkton Cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include five daughters, Barbara Mack, Linda Gibson, Bernadette Shaw, Charlene Mann, and Michelle Turner.

MABEL B. FRINK

ASH – Mabel B. Frink, 93, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at Brunswick Community Hospital, Supply. She was a homemaker.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at Little Prong Missionary Baptist Church in Ash by the Rev. Kirby L. Frink. Burial will follow in the Little Prong Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Uzena Bernard of Supply; and two brothers, Levi Marlow and Eldee Marlow, both of Ash.

Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 20 from noon until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon. Viewing will be at the church Saturday from 1-2 p.m. and again following the service.

GEORGE ‘JUNIOR’ HALL JR.

TAR HEEL – George “Junior” Hall Jr., 80, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at his residence.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at Tar Heel Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas Willoughby officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Edna S. Hall; three sons, Dickie Hall and Ronnie Hall, both of Tar Heel, and Robert Hall of Wilmington; three brothers, Stephen A. Hall and William N. Hall, both of Lumberton, James T. Hall of Dublin; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the church Thursday (tonight).

HARTFORD SELLERS

WHITEVILLE – Hartford Talmadge Sellers, 63, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006. He was born Monday, Sept. 16, 1943 in Columbus County, the son of the late Jesse Garland and Hazel Tyree Sellers.

Sellers earned a ASE Master Technician degree in mechanics. He retired from Rick Edwards Chevrolet in Whiteville.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with the Reverends James Tyree and Billy Gardner. Interment will follow in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home in Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon H. Sellers; three sons, Hartford T. (HT) Sellers Jr., Rex Sellers and Hartford T. Sellers III, all of Whiteville; two daughters, Terry Sellers of Raleigh, and Deborah Sellers White of Whiteville; two brothers, Lloyd Sellers of Hallsboro, and Wilson Sellers of Sunset Harbor; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lacy Sellers; and two sisters, Shelby Jean Hufton and Laura Smith.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at the funeral home.

MARY MAGDALENE GORE TODD

WHITEVILLE – Mary Magdalene Gore Todd, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at Bladen County Hospital, Elizabethtown. She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Amanda Catherine Beck Gore, and the widow of Joseph Albert Todd.

Graveside services were held Thursday, Oct. 19 at Columbus Memorial Park, Whiteville with the Rev. Billy Roy officiating. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.

HARLEY McKENZIE COLLINS

CHADBOURN – Harley McKenzie Collins, infant daughter (18 days) of Christopher J. and Crystal McPherson Collins died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006 at McLeod Hospital, Florence, S.C.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 at the McPherson Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Coffey officiating. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

In addition to her parents she is survived by two brothers, Christopher Jordan Collins of High Point and Bodi Chance Collins of the home; a sister, Hailey McKenna Collins of the home; maternal grandparents, Bobbie Jean McPherson of Chadbourn, John Chasteen of Arlington, Texas; paternal grandparents, Tammy Sellars of Tabor City and Greg Collins of High Point; maternal great-grandparents, Bobby and Margie McPherson of Chadbourn; paternal great-grandparents, Welton and Ruby Bodiford of Nakina.

MARTIN “MA” BUSH

HALLSBORO – Martin “MA” Ausburn Bush, 69, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. He was a native of Bladen County and the son of the late Randall and Iva Mae Settlemyre Bush.

A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church with the Reverends Doug Currin and Steve Bailey officiating. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Baldwin of Whiteville, Gayle Pearson of Cedar Grove, and Paula Price of Mebane; two sons, Stan Bush of Whiteville and Randy Bush of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Dot Lewis of Wilmington and Mickey Nye of Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church, Lake Waccamaw.

MEREM LADSON

EVERGREEN – Merem Ladson, 73, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was a dietician aide at Columbus County Hospital for approximately 25 years.

Final rites rites will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Mt. Horeb AME Church in Evergreen. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. D&A Funeral Service of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include a son, Robert Ladson; seven daughters, Carol Jeffries, Julia Blakely, Ellen Walls, Virginia Ladson, Sylvia Gilmore, Cynthia Greene, and Leacie Ladson; her father, Sampson McCormick; two sisters, Ida Ladson, and Florence McCormick; two brothers, James McCormick, and Byron Smith; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 21 from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

DONNA BENSON KEETER

LAKE WACCAMAW – Donna Benson Keeter, 60, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at Premier Living and Rehab. Center. She is the daughter of Thelba A. Benson and her late step-mother, Essie Canady Benson. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Ward Benson.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Tommy Bryson Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Waccamaw Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Keeter Strom of Crofton, Md. and Marian “Libby” Keeter Pispanen of Allentown, Pa.; a grandson, three granddaughters, a great-grandson, and her father, Thelba Albert Benson of Lake Waccamaw; and former husband, Vernon Keeter of Lake Waccamaw.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 20 at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m.
