Wolfpack-Warrior rivalry

Whiteville High soccer player Erik Roth (left) gets set to send a kick to a teammate while being defended by Waccamaw Academy’s Lance Caffee in last Thursday’s intra-city matchup at Warrior Field. Whiteville took a 7-0 victory in the match and will play host to the Warriors again Friday at 7 p.m., at Whiteville’s Legion Stadium. The rare Friday night soccer game falls on the Whiteville High football team’s open date. Coach Mike Buckpitt’s Whiteville fell squad fell to South Brunswick 5-3 Tuesday night as its season record now stands at 10-6-1 (see story on 2B of the printed edition). The Wolfpack, which is out to claim a state 2A playoff berth, will close its season next week with an Oct. 23 home game with East Bladen and an Oct. 25 road game at West Bladen.
