Whiteville Chamber’s Hollywood gala Oct. 19

By CLARA CARTRETTE

Whiteville will be transformed into Hollywood when the Greater Whiteville Chamber of Commerce has its Hollywood Movie Spectacular fundraiser on Oct. 19.

The red carpet extravaganza will be held in the N.C. Museum of Forestry from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and “Elvis will be in the house,” Chamber officials are promising.

This will be the chamber’s fifth annual fundraising benefit. All have featured exotic themes, and the Bond Girls will be returning this year as movie starlets. There will be two eight-foot Oscars to set the mood for this Hollywood gala.

Tickets are $100 (admits two). There will be a costume contest, so those attending have the option to dress as their favorite movie stars.
For tickets contact the chamber office, 642-3171 by Oct. 12. Proceeds will go toward relighting and landscaping Welcome to Whiteville signs.

This will be a fun event, featuring international cuisine, live entertainment and valuable pirate booty prizes including two $500 cash prizes.

Oscar level sponsors are Embarq and Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Center. BB&T is an Emmy level sponsor and Tony level sponsors are Affordable Dentures, Collier’s Jewelers, Columbus Pediatrics & Adolescent Care, New Directions Group Care Management and Waccamaw Bank.

Movie themes that will be featured are “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Around the World in 80 Days,” “My Fair Lady” and “Viva Las Vegas.”
Jerri Ann Gerald and Esther Scott are co-chairmen of the event. Other committee members are Lisa Clark, Debra Gibson, Christy Hilburn, Jackie Jones, Gennie Parnell, Lisa Stokstad, Griff Garner, Doug Hayes, Tracey Hodgson, Sally Mann, Ellen Steinberg, Karen Anderson-Tatum, Chamber President Victoria Webster and Executive Vice President Janice Young.
