v-ball playoffs

All four of Columbus County’s high-school volleyball teams were eliminated in the first round of the NCHSAA playoffs last Saturday.

Whiteville fell to visiting Croatan 3-2 and South Columbus lost to host Fairmont 3-1 in the 2A playoffs

In the 1A playoffs, East Columbus fell to Topsail 3-0 and West Columbus lost to Union 3-0.

Whiteville gave one of its strongest showings of the year before falling to the Croatan squad.
Croatan took the match by scores of 25-18, 19-25, 20-25, 25-19 and 15-6.

Olivia Williams led Whiteville scorers with 15 points. Nicole Storms had 11 and Sarah Gore had 10.

“Our girls gave it their best shot. It was an outstanding match,” said WHS coach Donnie Hannah, who completed his 26th season with the Lady Wolfpack.”

Whiteville finished the 2006 season with a 12-9 record including a third-place finish in the Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference standings.
