WHITEVILLE -- Audrey Mae Thompson Cullifer, 92, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born in Columbus County, Nov. 12, 1913, the daughter of the late Oliver and Livie Thompson. She was the widow of the late Jack Cullifer.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, and the Town and Country Garden Club. She was employed with The News Reporter, for 53 years.
Final rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Kendall Cameron. Interment will be in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Jackie Kinney and husband, David of Seven Lakes; a granddaughter, Lauren Kinney of Seven Lakes; and a sister, Margaret Thompson Watson of Whiteville.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Calton, Cornelious, Lawrence, Julius, and Leroy Thompson; two sisters, Irene Graham and Myrtle Jordan.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the funeral home.

WHITEVILLE -- Baby Boy Cainan Bryant Jones, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at Loris Community Hospital, Loris, S.C. He was the son of Joshua Kevin Jones and Jordanna Gore Jones.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Old Dock United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Faulk officiating. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Survivors other than his parents include, maternal grandparents, David Craig Gore and Camillia “Ann” Mercer Gore of Whiteville; paternal grandparents, Billy and Renee Jones of Collinsville, Ala.; maternal great-grandparents, Clyde and Evelyn Surles of Whiteville; paternal great-grandparents, Joe W. Jones and Ruth of Collinsville, Ala; paternal great-grandparents, Charles and Kathy Moses of Collinsville, Ala.
WHITEVILLE -- Lawrence Carter Farley, 88, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006. He was born March 6, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Lewis A. and Jane E. Stone Farley.
Farley was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II as a Navy Seal. He retired from Union Carbide.
A memorial service was held Thursday, Oct. 26, at First Presbyterian Church by the Reverends Joshua Bower and Ken Baker. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann Walker Farley; a son, Gregory Earl Farley and wife, Beverly of Whiteville; a daughter, Deborah Farley Tyman and husband, Ron of Whiteville; and a sister, Nadine Kidd of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Sybil Farley; seven sisters, Daphine Stanley, Billie Bird, Janice Whitman, Virginia Lowe, Donna Kidd, Leah Mitchell and Edith Farley.

BURGAW -- Dianne Thompson Searcy, 53, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. She as born March 12, 1953 in Columbus County, the daughter of Ruby Walker Thompson and the late Lee Roy Thompson.
Searcy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She graduated from Whiteville High School and Southeastern Community College. She retired after 30 years as administration assistant to the superintendent of New Hanover Department of Corrections.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines. Interment will follow in the Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip H. Searcy Jr. of Burgaw; her mother, Ruby Walker Thompson of Whiteville; a stepson, Kelly Searcy of Haw River; a brother, David W. Thompson of Whiteville; and three grandchildren.

CLARKTON -- Agnes Sellers Cartrette, 94, of the Western Prong community, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Bud and Flora Jane McPherson Sellers, and the widow of James Vollie Cartrette.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. William Jackie Godwin officiating. Interment will follow in the McPherson Cemetery, Chadbourn. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Christine C. Bowen of Evergreen, Doris C. Storms of Clarkton, Mary E. Ward of Fayetteville, and Irma C. McPherson of Clarkton; three sons, James Floyd Cartrette of Clarkton, Paul Junior Cartrette of Apex, and Larry Ray Cartrette of Clarkton; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

HALLSBORO -- Palmer Ray Duncan, 76, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, in Havelock. He was born in Brunswick County, the son of the late Roy and Sally Long Duncan.
Duncan retired from the United States Army after 20 years and retired from Allied Chemical after 20 years. He was a member of Honey Hill Baptist Church. He was the husband of the late Alice Faye Simms Duncan.
Final rites with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines by the Reverends Ralph Gore and Ricky Martin. Interment will follow in the Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include five sons, Palmer R. Duncan Jr. of Goose Creek, S.C., Michael Duncan of Havelock, Frank D. Duncan of Tampa, Fla., Thomas L. Duncan of Boston, Mass., Robert E. Duncan of Clarendon; a daughter, Melissa F. Robinson of Oakboro; two brothers, Leroy Duncan of Bladenboro, and Paul Duncan of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sisters, Betty Lou Ward and Annie Ruth Pierce, both of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy F. Duncan.

WILMINGTON -- Mildred Boswell, 76, died on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Born in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Nubie and Flora Inman.
Boswell collected what-nots, enjoyed cooking, and gardening.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, in the chapel of Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Roland Sesco Boswell; two daughters, Carolyn Ann “Susie” Bennett of Wilmington, and Amanda Boswell Toelly of Raleigh, seven grandchldren; and a sister, Evelyn Inman Garrell Cartrette.
She was predeceased by brothers, Roy Inman, D.L. Tyree, William Inman, and Herman Inman; and sisters, Dally Tyree, Hazel Tyree and Thelma Inman.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

TABOR CITY -- James A. Bryant, 78, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at his residence. He was a supervisor at a lumber store.
Final rites were held Saturday, Oct. 28, at First Baptist Church of Tabor City by Pastor Llewellyn Dewitt. Burial followed in the Columbus County Singing Union Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.

CLARKTON -- James J. Campbell, 75, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at his residence.He served in the United States Air Force.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie McCulloch Campbell.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at Clarkton Presbyterian Church with Dr. Paul Layton and Jim Barlett, CLP officiating. Burial will be private at Brown Marsh Church Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.

FAIR BLUFF -- Marcus Berry Bullock, 25, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Final rites are incomplete and will be announced later by S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Bullock, 190 Graham Street, Fair Bluff.
CHADBOURN -- Alvie Soles, 79, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Billy and Daisy Duncan Soles.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, conducted by the Reverends Jerry Spivey and Brooks Sykes with interment following in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Roger Dale Soles of Cerro Gordo; two daughters, Barbara Todd of Chadbourn, and Ila Pearl Wilson of Cerro Gordo; two brothers, Jackie Soles of Green Sea, S.C., and Junior Soles of Chadbourn; two sisters, Gladys Hammonds and Betty Todd, both of Whiteville; nine grandchldren, and 12 great-grandchldren.
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Ruth Carolyn Powell, 64, formerly of Hallsboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at Hospice of Baltimore. She was a fast food chain manager.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Mt. Hebron AME Zion Church in Hallsboro by the Rev. Dr. Staccato Powell. Burial will follow in the Hallsboro Memorial Park. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include five daughters, Evelyn Powell and Annette Johnson, both of Hallsboro, Vernette Powell of Florida, Sandra Powell and Alisa Adjaye, both of Maryland; a son, James Powell Jr. of New York; and her mother, Louise E. Bryant of New York.
Viewing will be at the funeral home Monday from noon until 8 p.m. There will be no viewing at the church Tuesday.
Friends may visit the family at 905 Jockey Road in Hallsboro.

TABOR CITY -- Byron Kenneth “Kenny” Coleman, 53, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006. He was born in Columbus County, the son of Mrytle Cartrette Coleman and the late Tim Coleman.
Final rites were held Sunday, Oct. 29 at Inman Chapel with interment following in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City.
