both rescheduled for tonight

By DAN BISER

Friday’s day-long rains forced postponement in Friday night’s games involving the West Columbus and East Columbus high school football games.

Both games have been rescheduled for tonight with West Columbus playing host to Southeastern 1A-2A Conference rival St. Pauls at 7:30, and East Columbus traveling to play Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference rival South Brunswick at 7.

Both West Columbus and East Columbus have 2-7 records and each can claim a state 1A playoff berth with a win the final two games of regular season.

West Columbus snapped a seven-game losing streak on Oct. 20 with a 28-12 road win at South Robeson. Coach Vernon Brigman’s Vikings will be going against a St. Pauls team with a 5-4 record, including a 2-2 conference record. Tonight will be Senior Night for West Columbus, which will wind up its regular-season schedule Friday night.

East Columbus is riding a two-game losing streak and will be taking on a South Brunswick team that has lost its last three game. Tonight is South Brunswick’s homecoming game. The Cougars have taken consecutive 41-6 victories over the Gators in their last two meetings.

Coach Travis Conner’s ECHS squad will finish out its regular-season schedule this Friday with a home game against Heide Trask.

West Columbus is looking for its second straight trip to the state playoffs while East Columbus is hoping to get back into the playoffs for the first time since 2003.
