Public deserves straight answers
from county

Honest, straightforward answers shouldn’t be too much to ask from elected officials and county government staff.

We asked 21 simple questions of County Attorney Steve Fowler Friday, 15 of which were responded to with “no comment.” Three weren’t addressed at all.

Fowler’s dodging of the questions speaks to the attitude of secrecy and arrogance that’s standard operating procedure with certain elements of county government.

It would be so much easier for everyone involved – not to mention the public – if the county commissioners and the power brokers in county administration would release public records and conduct the public’s business in public.

As a result of the current attitude, county officials and the commissioners have backed themselves into a corner. Instead of being forthright and running government the right way, they’ve shut the doors of their bunkers even tighter.

Honesty. Openness. Truthfulness.

Is that too much to ask?

It’s certainly a good place to start.
