Everette, McCallum gain All-State honors

Senior Chaz Everette, a three-year backcourt pace-setter for the West Columbus Viking boys basketball team has been named a First Team selection on the NCpreps.com 1A All-State basketball selections

Also, Whiteville High junior guard/forward standout Paige McCallum has been picked on the Second Team of the girls 2A All-State honorees.

The 6-foot-3 Everette averaged 22.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, four assists and eight steal per game for Coach Michael Powell’s Vikings, who posted a 22-4 season record while advancing to the 1A sectional semi-finals.

He is joined on the 1A All-State First Team by Chris Woods of state champion Thomasville, K.J. Cooper of state runnerup Thomasville, Justin Johnson of Cherryville and Emanuel Davis of Manteo. East Bladen’s Mike-Mike Smith is a Second Team selection.

McCallum averaged 24.3 points and 11.5 rebounds for Coach Dudley Revels’ Whiteville Lady Wolfpack, which advanced to the Easter N.C. Regional 2A finals for the second straight year and compiled a 25-4 record.

Her older sister Shannon was a three-time 2A All-State selection before graduating from WHS last spring.

Making up the girls 2A All-State First Team are Cetera DeGraffenreid of state champion Smoky Mountain, Nikki Welborn of state runnerup Graham, Monique Floyd of Fairmont, Anna Freeman of East Davidson and Tiffany Whiting of South Iredell.

Joining McCallum on the Second Team are Kwasheia Hicks of Salisbury, Amanda Sinclair of Red Springs, Lindsey Montgomery of Shelby and Dana Lewis of Pasquotank.
