WAXHAW -- Floride Blackmon Carter, 91, formerly of Heath Springs, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, at Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Indian Trail. Born Oct. 24, 1915, in Heath Springs, she was the daughter of the late William Edward and Lottie Floride Harris Blackmon and was the widow of J. Eugene Carter. She was a former member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church and was a retired rural United States mail carrier.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12 (today), at Beaver Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Hammond officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mahaffey Funeral Home of Lancaster, S.C. is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughters, Alice L. Carter of Waxhaw, Cheryl C. Wilkins and her husband Donal of Monroe and Nicki C. Fabry of Concord; grandchildren, Andrea Shrum and her husband Rick, and Nichele Jones and her husband Russell; two great-grandchildren, Greg Shrum and Sidney Jones; a niece and her family, three nephews and their families, as well as several cousins. She will be greatly missed, but we rejoice that she has gone home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilmore R. and George E. Blackmon and two sisters, Fannie C. “Bunt” Stover and Eloise Linderman.

RACHEL MAYFIELD McQUEEN MORRIS
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. -- Rachel Mayfield McQueen Morris, 82, died on Saturday, March 31, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Belvin Morris.
She formerly worked at The News Reporter in the early fifties and also at Schulken Florist.
Private services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, at New Hope Baptist Church, Whiteville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Morris; daughters, Sharon Jones and husband Joseph and Kathi Sanchez and husband Albert; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

NICHOLS, S.C. -- Marvel Floyd Gerrald, 71, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Loris Extended Care. She was born in Horry County, S.C., the daughter of the late Charlie Bruce Floyd and Blanche Roberts Floyd.
Graveside services were held Thursday, April 12 (today) at Green Sea Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Lloyd Sarvis officiating. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Ravenel T. Gerrald of Nichols, S.C.; and a brother, William N. “Shorty” Floyd of Conway, S.C.
WHITEVILLE -- Lula Mae Callens, 64, died Friday, April 6, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 12 (today), at Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include four sisters, Mary Evelyn Patterson, Louise Faison Pickett, and Macie L. Faison, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Alfredia Faison London of Huber Heights, Ohio; two brothers, Anthony Faison and Julius Ray Coleman of Whiteville.
CHADBOURN -- James Frank Andrews, 74, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at his residence. He was the son of the late Bill and Clara Edwards Andrews.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2007 at Worthington Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Johnson Andrews; five sons, Tony Andrews of Whiteville, Donnie Andrews of Chadbourn, Terry Andrews of Chadbourn, Tim Andrews of Guideway, and Shannon Andrews of Chadbourn; three sisters, Alice Nobles of Chadbourn, and Eva Little of Fair Bluff, and Louise Terry of Chadbourn; two brothers, Sam Andrews of Cerro Gordo and Johnny Andrews of Raleigh; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 12 (tonight) at the funeral home.
EVERGREEN -- Sammy K. Fields, 64, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. He was the son of the late Kinnon and Ruth Ward Fields.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Boardman Baptist Church Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Marthella Fields Moore of Evergreen; and a brother, Strange Edward “Jiggs” Fields of Evergreen.
TABOR CITY -- Frankie Gerald Elliott of Tabor City died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Loris Healthcare.
He was born August 6, 1956 in Columbus County, the son of Jerry D. Elliott and the late Mary Canady Elliott.
Final rites will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines by Rev. Markus Fowler. Interment will follow in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. Peacock’s Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Survivors in addition to his father are a brother, Jimmy D. Elliott of Sunset Beach; a sister, Joetta Elliott of Tabor City. He was preceded in death by his mother; paternal grandparents, Dozier and Lucille Atkinson Elliott; and maternal grandparents, Joseph C. and Bessie Norris Canady.
The family will receive friends from 3 - 4 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines.
CHADBOURN -- Robert Maurice Dunn, 19, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007.
Final rites were held Saturday, April 7, at Pink Hill Funeral Home. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Pink Hill Funeral Home of Pink Hill handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his parents, Tonya McLaurin Dunn of Goldsboro; his grandfather, Maurice McLaurin of Chadbourn; his sister, Jessica Lynn Dunn of Goldsboro; and his brother, Randall Dunn Jr. of Chadbourn.
TABOR CITY -- Richard James Todd Sr. of the Clarendon community died on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Vance and Alease Todd.
Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, at First Baptist Clarendon Church with Bishop Donald Todd delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Flag Patch Cemetery in Loris, S.C. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Todd Jr. of Brentwood, N.Y., Antwan and Richard Todd III of the home; four daughters, Sonja Robinson and Angela Todd of Long Island, N.Y., Stannetta and Callie Todd of the home; four brothers, John and Percy Todd of Tabor City, Bishop Donald Todd of Lumberton and Vance Todd Jr. of St. Pauls; two sisters, Margaret Todd of the home and Ceola Stephens of Lexington, Va.

CLARKTON -- Milton “Cigar” Reaves, 86, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Elizabethtown Nursing Center.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Clarkton with the Rev. Grant Martin officiating. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Reaves of the home; two daughters, Milenease Marshall and Cassandra Battle and a son, Christopher Reaves.
CLARKTON -- Cecil Bell Spaulding, 97, died Wedneday, April 11, 2007, at Linkhaw Nursing Home in Lumberton. He was a farmer.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Rehobeth AME Zion Church, Rehobeth Church Road, Clarkton with Pastor Jonas Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Field Cemetery, Clarkton.
Survivors include four daughters, Doris S. Thompson of Lumberton, Annie M. Spaulding, Lula S. Peacock, and Elizabeth S. Alexander, all of Clarkton.
Viewing will be held on Friday, April 13 from 2-8 p.m. The family will receive friemds from 6-8 p.m. April 13 at the funeral home, and on Saturday, April 14 at the church one hour prior to the service.
Family and friends will be received at the home of Lula S. Peacock.
