| Thursday is Earth Day at SCC
Thursday is Earth Day at SCC The faculty, staff and students of Southeastern Community College, along with Columbus County’s fourth-graders, invite the public to join them in celebrating Earth Day on Thursday, April 19 from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. All activities are free of charge and open to the public. Activities and exhibits will reinforce this year’s theme, “Don’t Let Our Earth Become Extinct!” According to Jackie Williams, 2007 Earth Day coordinator, “This year’s theme says it all. “We have got to take care of the home that we have. Each of us has the power to do his or her part. Simple ways include conserving water when brushing teeth and picking up litter and recycling. You will not want to miss this year’s celebration.” Attendees will be able to take an informative walk on SCC’s Nature Trail that will be presented by SCC’s environmental science technology and park ranger technology students. They can witness demonstrations on pottery making, how an electrical vehicle works, manicuring and the use of forestry equipment. Environmental characters will describe their environmental awareness campaigns. The SCC Choir, accompanied by Dr. Sharyn Edwards, will supply musical entertainment, and T-shirts, baked goods, and other products will be available for purchase. Representatives from Dinosaur Rocks will make a special presentation. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher will display a mobile aquarium. A free picnic lunch will be provided from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. For more information about the Earth Day celebration contact Jackie Williams at 642-7141, ext. 326. |
