Vikings squeeze past South Robeson 11-10

CERRO GORDO - The West Columbus Vikings had to battle from behind twice on Friday as they managed to squeeze out an 11-10 Southeastern 1A-2A Conference baseball win over visiting South Robeson by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Coach Ricky Young’s Vikings battled back from deficits of 5-0 and 10-8 to claim the win and stay unbeaten in Southeastern Conference play.

Timothy “Batman” Brown went 4-for-4 and drove in four Viking runs while Kenyarta Smith had three hits and two runs batted in. Winning pitcher Nathan Long and Corey Duncan each had two hits with Long knocking a key triple. Long got the win after coming to the mound in the fifth inning.

The Vikings scored four runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth as they put their season record at 7-4. The Vikings will entertain Whiteville tonight at 7.
