RACHEL WILLIAMSON THOMPSON
KERNERSVILLE -- Rachel Williamson Thompson, 72 formerly of Columbus County died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
Thompson was born March 7, 1935 in Robeson County, daughter of the late William J. and Ethel Nance Williamson. She was the widow of William L. Thompson Jr. and was a member of the Missions Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
Final rites will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn with Reverend Vernon Williamson and Pastor David Keaton officiating. Interment will follow in Union Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, Whiteville. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by her sons, Gregory James Thompson and his wife, Pamela Jeanne Thompson of Cedar Hill, Missouri, and Steven Ray Thompson and his wife, Debra Dumont Thompson of Lewisville; a sister, Dorothy Wilburn of Melbourne, Fla.; two brothers, Edward “Pug” Williamson of Chadbourn and Wilbur Williamson of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Felicia Michelle Thompson, Gregory James Thompson II, Brandy Lee Kemper, and Christopher James Beshears; four great-grandchildren, Alliyah Michelle Jones, Justin Andrew Kemper, Cameron Alexander Kemper, and Cody Jamison; and two loving family pets, Sinbad (Grandcat) and Chopper (Granddog).
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (one hour prior to service) at the funeral home.

ST. PAULS -- Cassandra “Cassie” Cheatham, 28, formerly of Bladenboro, died Thursday, April 19, 2007.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 21, at Pine Crest Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Cheatham of the home; a daughter, Kaytland Cheatham of the home; her parents, Tom and Connie Howell of Bladenboro; her paternal grandparents, Tom and Virginia Howell of Bladenboro; her maternal grandparents, Leona Stewart of Noblesville, Ind.; two brothers, Oakley Howell of Bladenboro and David Howell of Hilo, Hawaii; five sisters, Regina Culbreth and Savannah Howell, both of Hilo, Hawaii, Scarlet Berkeimer of Bamberg, Germany, Ruth Howell and Rose Howell, both of Bladenboro.
BARBARA LEE BLACKWELL KINSEY
FLORENCE, S.C. -- Barbara Lee Blackwell Kinsey, 74, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born in Columbus County, daughter of Johnnie Sanderson Blackwell and the late Clarence Lee Blackwell.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Allen A. Bullard, who died in 1971 and her second husband, Carl H. Kinsey, who died in 1998; her son, Allen Anthony Bullard, who died 1969 and by a brother, John Dennis Blackwell, who died in 1966.
Kinsey was a member of Southside Baptist Church and past president of the Gardenia Garden Club and the Crossroads Homemaker Club.
Final rites were held Friday, April 13, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence, S.C. handled the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Jonathan Karl (Linda Rogers) Bullard and James Michael (Betty) Bullard, both of Florence, S.C.; a daughter, Tonya Leigh Bullard of Florence, S.C.; a granddaughter, Christina Marie Bullard of Florence, S.C.; a stepgranddaughter, Jessica Rogers of Denver; a brother, ElRoy Blackwell of Matthews; two sisters, Nancy “Betty” Sealey of Florence, S.C. and Martha Jennette Hayes of Chadbourn.
EVERGREEN -- James Edward Nixon, 66, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at his residence.
Final rites were held Sunday, April 22, at Mt. Horeb AME Church with the Rev. Tony Mills officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Community Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Nixon of Evergreen, Debra Nixon Jackson of Whiteville, Karra L. Powell and Shonte Powell, both of Lumberton; three sons, Joe Edward Cager of Dunn, Eric Powell and Marcus Powell, both of Lumberton; his mother, Helen Nixon Bethea of Evergreen; two sisters, Retha Young of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Martha Flowers of Whiteville; and a brother, James Briggs of Whiteville.
ASH -- Anson Floyd Simmons, 76, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, following a short illness. A native of Brunswick County, born July 12, 1930, Simmons was a logging truck driver for more than 30 years with the Simmons Logging Company. He was a member of New Britton Baptist Church of Ash.
Final rites were held Sunday, April 22, at New Britton Baptist Church with the Reverends Sterling Sarvis and Scott Cumbee officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Walters Simmons and daughter Sara Evans, both of the home; three step-sons, Robert Caulk of Gatesville, Billy Williamson of Fayetteville and Owen Williamson of Angier; a brother, Lathion Simmons and wife Betty of Ash; four sisters, Lila Jones of Wilmington, Estalene McLamb and husband, Buddy of Salemburg, Betty Willetts of Supply, and Bonnie Clemons of Ash; nine stepgrandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anson Chaddy Simmons and Ava Mildred Smith Simmons.
CLARKTON -- Steve Melton Little, 87, died Friday, April 20, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Little retired from the United States Army. He was an Army medic. He served in World War II
and the Korean Conflict.
Final rites were held Monday, April 23, at Clarkton Baptist Church with Dr. Larry A. Pittman officiating. Burial followed in the Bladen Memorial Gardens, Elizabethtown. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.
Survivors include three brothers, Jack Little and Charles Little, both of Clarkton, and Ben Little of Holden Beach; one grandchild, one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jeraleen Baldwin Little; a son, Melton Jerome Little; a sister, Vena Little Hooks; his parents, Henry Frank and Ora Little; and four brothers, James Little, Brooks Little, Max Little, and Ralph Little.
RIEGELWOOD -- Howard Monroe Ransom, 71, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at North Carolina University Hospital in Chapel Hill. He was born the son of the late Wardie Ransom and Mae Ransom and was preceded in death by a sister, Essie Rae Ransom Soles.
Ransom retired from the United States Army after serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He also retired from Wright Chemical Company.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at New Life Community Church with the Rev. Randy Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Original Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Carol Ransom; five daughters, Annie Ransom, Dwaina Archellta, Linda Ransom, and Renee Ranson, all of Leland, and Cindy Ransom of Hampstead; three sons, Sammy Ransom of Bladenboro, Anthony Ransom and Richard Ransom, both of Hampstead; a brother, Clyde Stubbs of Wilmington; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday (tonight) at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m.
WHITEVILLE -- Velma Williams Price, 87, formerly of Shallotte, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born in Columbus County on Feb. 26, 1920, a daughter of the late Will and Dosha Duncan Williams. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph L. Price.
Final rites were held Monday, April 23, at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Landis Lancaster officiating. Burial followed in Columbus Memorial Park, Whiteville. Brunswick Funeral Service of Shallotte handled the arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Ralph L. Price Jr. of Clayton, William David Price of Midlothian, Va. and James Edward Price of Ocean Isle Beach; two daughters, Betty P. Faulk of Palmdale, Calif. and Esther P. Earp of Shallotte; a brother, Wilson Williams of Tabor City; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Fowler passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2007. Born in Marion County, he was the son of the late William Edward and Susan Jane Long Fowler. He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Whiteville and a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Kroger Savon after more than 20 years of service. Prior to his employment with Kroger he was an employee of Piggly Wiggly.
Surviving are his wife, Lovennia White Fowler of Gaston, S.C.; daughters, Lisa Marie Snelgrove of West Columbia, S.C., Pamela C. Saunders of Gaston, S.C., Sherry Ann Gunter of Columbia, S.C., Leislie Nicole Fowler of Gaston, S.C.; seven grandchildren, a sister, Mae Brown of West Columbia, S.C.
WHITEVILLE -- Martha Capps, 80, died Friday, April 20, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Robert Clement Ellis and Elizabeth Phillips.
Capps retired from Nations Bank and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Final rites were held Sunday, April 22, at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Stephen Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Galloway Cemetery, Supply. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Libby Fulkerson of Whiteville; two sons, Alan Capps and Mack Capps, both of Whiteville; a brother, Marion Ellis of Hartsville, S.C.; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

EVERGREEN -- Ronnie Hammonds Jr., 48, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Final rites were held Saturday, April 21, at S&L Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nathaniel Scott officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Rochelle Thomas of Orlando, Fla.; three sons, Ronnie Junior Hammonds II of Orlando, Fla., Michael Wade of Salisbury, and Brian Wade of Alexandria, La.; a brother, Timothy Hammonds of Whiteville; and a sister, Jeanette Fields of Cerro Gordo.
CARROLLTON, Va. -- Raymond Floyd Storms, 80, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was born in Bladen County the son of the late Alton and Vivian Storms. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marion Storms.
Storms was a heavy equipment operator in the ship building industry. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Final rites were held Saturday, April 21, at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Mac Roberts and Rev. Jonathan Taylor. Burial followed in Allen Cemetery, Dublin. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.
Survivors included his wife, Marie Carroll Storms; three brothers, Roscoe Storms of Hampton, Va., Harvey Storms of Roswell, N.M., and Bobby Storms of Clayton; and two sisters, Evelyn Brown of Spring Lake, and Pearlese McCalley of Gainesville, Ga.
