ANNIE SETTLEMYRE MACON

RIEGELWOOD -- Annie Settlemyre Macon, 93, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007. She was born in Bladen County, Feb. 19, 1914. She was the last surviving child of the late Martin Lurther and Lillie Sigmon Settlemyre. She was the wife of the late Sherman M. Macon. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt who will be greatly missed, but will remain in our hearts forever.

Macon was predeceased by all her siblings including sisters, Iva Bush and Alma Medlin; and brothers, Clarence, Martin, and Odell Settlemyre. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Macon Owen and husband J.A.; a son, Wayne Macon; and a grandson, Mitchell Macon.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Carvers Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Buddy Champion officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Kinlaw Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Anne Macon Melvin and husband Pat of Elizabethtown; and sons, Norwood Macon and wife Ann of Kings Mountain, Terry Macon and wife Nellie, Bobby Macon and wife Paula, and Milton Macon and wife Cindy, and daughter-in-law Lois Macon, all of Riegelwood. Also survived by grandchildren, Melissa Macon of Riegelwood, Natalie Davis and husband Jim of Elizabethtown, Lorrie Davis and husband Tim of Wilmington, Angela Dowless and husband Anthony of Newport News, Va., Lisa Macon of Leland, Sherry Dunn and husband G.B. of Wilmington, Karen Bogan and husband Richard of Sanford, Joy Morgan and husband Hob of Wilmington, John Owen of Riegelwood, Woody Macon of Hampstead, Tony Macon and wife Teresa of Riegelwood, Rocky Macon of Summerville, S.C., Beth Dye and husband D.W. of Lincolnton, James Brock and wife Rebecca of Denver, Colo., and Kim Brock of Wilmington; 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church after the service.

Pallbearers for the service will be G.B. Dunn, L.C. Ellington, Woody Macon, Dennis Nye, Mike Nye, and John Smith.

CARLEEN CLEWIS LONG

WHITEVILLE -- Mary Carleen Clewis Long, 77, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in Columbus County. She was the daughter of the late Bruce and Olympus Smith Clewis and the widow of Alfred Long. She was a member of Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Lyles officiating. Burial will follow in the Clewis Family Cemetery. Peacock Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

She was the beloved mother of Hazel Long Clewis of Whiteville; grandmother of Melissa Clewis Inman and husband, Kyle of Ash and Michael Duncan of Whiteville; sister of Annie McKeithan of Burgaw; and a friend to all.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 25 at the funeral home.

DONALD BRUCE JESSUP

CLARKTON -- Donald Bruce Jessup, 60, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Britthaven Nursing Facility, Wilmington. He was a truck driver.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Harrelson Creek AME Zion Church, White Oak, Highway 53, with Rev. Michael Bullard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his mother, Marstine Jessup; his wife, Velma Jessup; children, Tarron Jessup, Carlton Jessup, Erik Jessup, Vickie Kates, and Kelly Purdie; brothers, Simmie McKoy, Johnnie Jessup, and Horace Jessup; sisters, Alice Johnson, Katie Rhodie, Annette Jessup, and Lorain Hill.

HALLSBORO -- Annette Cathleen Johnson, 45, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Carroll S. Roberson Hospice Center, Fayetteville.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at St. James AME Church, 225 West Walter Street, Whiteville, with Pastor J.A. Richburgh officiating. Burial will follow in the Cutler Cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Nathaniel Johnson, four children, Nicole Johnson, Therisia Cooke, Louise Cooke, and Stephen P. Harrell Jr.; four sisters, Evelyn Powell, Vernette Wright, Sandra Powell, and Alisa Adjaye; and a brother, James Jerome Powell Jr.

Viewing will be one hour prior to the service, no viewing at the funeral home.

LAKE WACCAMAW -- Daniel J. George, 63, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Premier Living.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Campground Cemetery in Whiteville with the Evangelist Sherry Haywood officiating. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include three sisters, Annie Monroe, Ruby Simmons, and Ella Monroe, all of Whiteville.

Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday, April 27 from noon until 8 p.m.

Friends may visit the family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Simmons, 422 Ward Street, Whiteville.

SUSAN NORRIS EDWARDS

LORIS, S.C. -- Susan Norris Edwards, 35, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, as the result of an automobile accident in Georgetown, S.C.

Final rites were held Wednesday, April 25, at Dogwood Hill Baptist Church, Loris, S.C., with interment in the Norris Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.

WHITEVILLE -- Miriam Jacqueline Grubbs, 61, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.

WHITEVILLE -- Lillie Mae “Met” George, 97, died Wednesday, April 24, 2007, at Liberty Commons.
