S. Robeson rallies
past Warriors 6-5

ROWLAND - The host South Robeson Mustangs rallied for four runs in the the bottom of the seventh inning to overtake the visting Waccamaw Academy Warriors 6-5 Tuesday in a non-conference baseball game.

The Warriors had gained an 5-2 lead behind the pitching of Jason Hufham. Hufham also hit his seventh home run of the season with a solo blast in the top of the seventh inning.

The loss dropped Waccamaw Academy’s season record to 7-9 while South Robeson, a member of the Southeastern 1A-2A Conference, improved to 12-7.

Hufham. Jimmie Davis, Josh Taylor and Sterling Graham each had two hits for Waccamaw Academy. Both of Davis’ hits were doubles.

“We played about as well as we have all season against a good team,” said Warrior head coach Winfred Johnson. “It’s tough that we lost it in the final inning, but the effort was there all the way through.

Quick was the winning pitcher for South Robeson, coming on in the seventh inning.

Jordan Hunt had two hits for the Mustangs.

Waccamaw Academy will travel to Red Springs today to take on Flora Macdonald Academy in its final Souteheastern Independent Conference game of the season. Waccamaw Academy has already clinched the SEIC title with a 5-0 record.
