ROCKY POINT - Quarterback Josh Wiggins ran for three touchdowns, and Dominic Lesine ran for a TD and booted two field goals Friday night in the leading the host Heide Trask Titans to a 33-22 victory over the West Columbus Vikings in the 2007 high school football opener for both teams.

Trask used an 18-point second quarter to grab a 24-14 halftime lead. West Columbus cut the score to 24-22 after three quarters, but Trask pulled away with nine unanswered points in the final quarter.

West Columbus, which committed six turnovers in the loss, was led by back Sean Brown, who ripped off a 65-yard first-quarter run for the game’s first score and then returned a second quarter kickoff 63 yards for another touchdown. Brown rushed for 121 yards on only seven carries for the Vikings, who held a 14-9 lead midway through the second quarter before Wiggins ran 73 yards for the go-ahead points.

Lesine added a 16-yard run moments later that gave the Titans a 24-14 lead.
Coach Vernon Brigman’s West Columbus squad battled back in the third quarter, getting a one-yard touchdown buck by senior back Travis Leggett. Leggett finished the night with 68 yards on 13 carries and scored a pair of two-point conversions.

An 11-yard run by Wiggins with just under 10 minutes remaining and a 36-yard field goal by Lesine in the fourth quarter with just under two minutes remaining put the game out of reach for West Columbus.

West Columbus will play host to intra-county rival East Columbus this Friday night at 7:30.
