Columbus East
falls to Tennessee
in third round

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala.- Goodlettsville, Tenn., took an 8-2 victory over the Columbus East All-Stars Monday night in the third round of the 2007 Dixie Boys Baseball World Series.

The loss eliminated the North Carolina champion from the 12-team, double-elimination World Series tournament.

Derrick Bracey had two hits while Hunter Smith and Manuel Figueroa each had a run-scoring single for Columbus East. Frank Ciamillo, Smith and Forrest Wayne pitched in the loss.

The Columbus East squad had opened the tournament on Saturday with a 5-2 loss to Texarkana, Ark., but bounced back on Sunday to eliminate the host Muscle Shoals team 7-2.

The Columbus East team, coached by Kevin Wayne, Robert Gurkin and Gary Smith, gave Columbus County its 10th North Carolina Jr. Dixie Boys championship in 12 years by going unbeaten in state tournament play two weeks ago at Southport.

Team members are Derrick Bracey, Hunter Smith, Manuel Figueroa, Alex Batten, Frank Ciamillo, Justin White, Taylor Stevens, Forrest Wayne, Jermal Davis, David Michael Bridgers, Tanner Reynolds, Jacob Long and Jeremiah Jacobs.
