The Whiteville High School boys basketball team’s four-game winning streak came to a screeching halt Tuesday as the Wolfpack fell to the visiting St. Pauls Bulldogs 56-48. The Wolfpack was held to a single point in the second quarter as its record fell to 4-2. “We didn’t hit our shots,” said WHS coach Kenzil McCall. “The reason we won our last four games was because we shot the ball well. That didn’t happen tonight.” Sprandon Mahoney and Aaron Clark each scored 16 points for the Wolfpack in the loss. R. Bethea scored 17 points to lead St. Pauls, followed by Steve Williams with 15 and William McRae with 13. Whiteville had defeated the St. Pauls team by a 59-54 score in their game earlier this month at St. Pauls. St. Pauls led 25-15 at the half and 36-21 after three quarters. Whiteville put up a 27-point comeback surge in the fourth quarter but could get no closer than seven points in the final minutes. The Whiteville girls suffered their fifth straight loss as the Lady Bulldogs prevailed 59-42 behind Jasmine Williams’ 17 points. Sarah Gore had 11 points for Whiteville, whose record slipped to 1-5.
