S. Columbus teams bow to Fairmont |

FAIRMONT - The host Fairmont Golden Tornadoes took a 64-59 boys basketball win over the visiting South Columbus Stallions Tuesday. South Columbus, playing its second game of the season in as many nights after having to postpone early seasons games because of its involvement in the state 2A football playoffs, got a game-high 21 points from Derrick Clay. The Stallions received a blow late in the first half when standout senior guard Bryant Edwards received a shoulder separation and had to leave the game. Clay, who played in last Saturday’s state championship football game, was joined in double figures by Frederick Bryant, who had 15 points. South Columbus led at the half 29-26. Hykeem Stephens had 19 points to help lead the Fairmont victory and Michael Bass had 14. Fairmont won the girls game 54-36. Shanniah Powell led the Lady Tornadoes with 27 points and Stephanie Powell had 11. Amanda Dowe scored 13 points for South Columbus. South Columbus held a 23-19 halftime lead before Fairmont battled back in the third quarter to outscore the Lady Stallions 17-4. GIRLS GAME
