Jiggs Powers Award

Robbie Penny, Whiteville High School’s All-State pitcher and now a member of the UNC Tar Heel baseball team, is presented the 2007 Jiggs Powers Memorial Award by Ginny Hailey on Thursday. The award, which annually recognizes Columbus County’s Most Outstanding Athlete, was established in 1951 by longtime county sports publicist Vernon “Jiggs” Powers.
