The Whiteville High boys and girls basketball team will face big holiday challenges when they step into play in the Dec. 27-28 Bulldog Christmas Shoot-Out Tournament, hosted by Wallace-Rose Hill.

The tournament field will consist of Whiteville, Clinton, East Bladen and host Wallace-Rose Hill.

All games will be played at the Wallace-Rose Hill gym at Teachey.

Tournament play will open Thursday at 4 p.m., with a girls game between East Bladen and Clinton. A girls match-up between Whiteville and Wallace-Rose Hill will follow at 5:30.

Boys action will begin at 7 with East Bladen taking on Clinton. The Whiteville boys team will tangle with Wallace-Rose Hill at 8:30.

On Friday, the girls’ third-place game will begin at 4 p.m., with the boys’ third-place game set to begin a 5:30.

The girls’ championship game is scheduled to get under way at 7, and the boys’ championship game is set for 8:30.

The Whiteville boys squad of first year head coach Kenzil McCall is carrying a 5-3 record and is just two wins shy of matching its victory total of all last season.

The Whiteville girls team won its season opener with West Columbus, but has dropped its last seven outings. The Lady Wolfpack now has as many losses than it has had in its last three seasons combined.

Coach Dudley Revels’ Lady Wolfpack is undergoing a major rebuilding job after advancing to the Eastern Regional 2A finals last season.
