ARLENE VIRGINIA SHIELDS BLANCHARD
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine -- Arlene Virginia Sheilds Blanchard, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at her home. She was born Sept. 27, 1926 in Houlton the daughter of Harold and Susan (Adams) Shields. She was the widow of Richard B. Blanchard.
Blanchard was a member of the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church. She graduated from Oakfield High School in 1944 then from Whidden Memorial Hopsital Scott of Nursing of Everett, Mass. in 1948. She met her soon to be husband of 47 years, Richard while working at Houlton Regional Hospital and they married Oct. 21, 1953. Her carreer in nursing also included the Mars Hill Nursing Home and the Presque Isle Nursing Home.
Final rites were held Sunday, Jan. 28, at Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, on Fleetwood St. in Presque Isle, with the Rev. David Williams officiating. A spring interment will be held at Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. Duncan-Graves Funeral Home of Presque Isle, Maine handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her two sons, Steven Blanchard and wife Mary Sue of Whiteville, and David Blanchard of Presque Isle; a daughter, Lee Ann Mathis and her husband Keith of Presque Isle, Maine, a granddaughter, Danielle Mathis of Presque Isle, Maine; four nieces and several cousins including a special cousin, Evelyn Blake of Brewer, Maine.

TABOR CITY -- David Leroy Long, 68, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at Loris Healthcare, Loris, S.C. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Roy Wilson Long and Estalene Jacobs Long. He was a retired member of the National Guard.
Final rites were held Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Inman Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Coleman officiated. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Alene L. Long of the home; two sons, Roger Dale Locklear of Dublin, Ga., David Wayne Long of Greensboro; three daughters, Crystal Worley and Julie Norris, both of Tabor City, and Melanie Edge of Dublin, Ga.; two brothers, Ronnie Long of Loris, S.C., Johnnie Long of Raleigh; a sister, Lorraine Hinson of Tabor City; and 10 grandchlidren.
MOTHER EUNICE BLANKS WHITE WOOTEN
WHITEVILLE -- Mother Eunice Blanks White Wooten, 95, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at Premier Living. She was a homemaker.
Final rites are incomplete and will be announced by Union Funeral Home of Whiteville.
Survivors include two sons, Henry L. White of Whiteville, and Thomas White of Florida; three daughters, Martha Smith of New York, Lorine Henry of Maryland, and Bertha Smith of Whiteville.
Friends and family will be received at the home of Henry Lawrence White, 770 Rico Road, Whiteville.
CLARENDON -- Henry “Joe” D. Spivey died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of the late Emery Jay and Mary Ellen Ross Spivey.
Spivey was a veteran serving in the United States Navy during World War II.
Final rites were held Thursday, Feb. 1 at Worthington Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John McPherson officiating. Interment will follow at the Spivey Cemetery, Iron Hill. Worthington Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Jane Cartrette Spivey of the home; a son, Frank G. Spivey of Wilmington; three step-daughters, Emily Darryl Nobles and Pearl Hammonds, both of Chadbourn, and Mary Helen Walters of Bladenboro; six step sons, Asure Spivey and Thomas Spivey, both of Whiteville, Frazier Spivey of Little River, S.C., Marty Norris of Clarendon, Barry Norris and Jody Norris, both of Chadbourn; a sister, Ann Nobles of Charleston, S.C.; 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
DELCO -- Joseph Clayton Gore, 72, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at his residence. He was the son of the late Joseph Rass Gore and Ellar Zuellar Champion.
Gore was a member of Union Grove Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (today) at Union Grove Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church with burial following the Champion Cemetery.
Survivors include three sisters, Thelma G. Rooks of Rocky Point, Ella Mae Gore and Lola G. Mintz, both of Delco; and a brother, Elton Gore of Delco.
ELIZABETHTOWN -- Joseph Michael Brewer, 51, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at his residence.
Brewer served in the United States Army in the special forces.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at JFK Chapel at Fort Bragg. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Jennette Brewer of the home; his mother, Elizabeth Quatrevaux of Fayetteville; a son, Michael Patrick Brewer of Fayetteville; three step sons, Steven Anderson, William Robert Anderson, and James Matthew Anderson, all of Florida; three daughters, Jamie Marie Brewer and Jennifer Lee Hernndez, both of Fayetteville, and Bobbie Jo Ann Brewer of Washington, D.C.; a step daughter, Danielle Marie Miller of Elizabethtown; a sister, Mim Brown of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren.
WHITEVILLE -- Maggie Creech Cartrette, 73, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born June 12, 1933 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Lee Byron Creech and Julia Rebecca Creech.
Cartrette was a member of Peace United Methodist Church. She retired as a service assistant with Sprint Telephone Company.
Survivors include two daughters, Anne Cartrette Crutchman of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Tammy Cartrette Todd of Whiteville; a son, Joseph Cartrette of Shallotte; a brother, Bobby Creech of Whiteville; three sisters, Viola Creech Cartrette and Virginia Creech Inman, both of Whiteville, and Rose Creech Hinson of Chadbourn; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson and four brothers, Stephen, Woodell, McArthur, and Fred Creech.
