OBITUARIES

KAYE BROWN PALMER

THOMASVILLE -- Joyce Kaye Brown Palmer passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 9:30 a.m. surrounded by her family and friends. She was 59 years and 2 months young.

Kaye, as she would always tell you this is what she would like to be called, was born in Columbus County on Dec. 7, 1947 to proud parents Rudolph and Susan Brown, both of whom are with their daughter again. Kaye was washed by the blood of the Lamb in Lumber River in Williamson’s Crossroads. She grew up, as did her little sister Sharon and many children of her age, picking tobacco from sun-up to sun-down. She also worked many part-time jobs as a teenager to help support her family.

Those who knew Kaye well, knew that she lived for her children and her family. She gave birth to three sons: Jr., Scott, and Frankie. Momma Kaye married the love of her life, Dennis Allen Palmer, on June 8, 1977 in Chesterfield County, S.C. Dennis and Kaye enjoyed taking Caribbean cruises together, along with the occasional red-eye flights to Atlantic City and Tunica. They were active members of the Thomasville and Lexington Moose Lodge, where they loved to be with their friends. Dennis, a.k.a. Big Pop, left this world on Feb. 11, 2000 and his Katie felt the loss more than anyone. But she has her big beautiful smile and her unmistaken swagger back, for her and Dennis are traveling the universe again.

Besides her husband, Kaye is among many past loved ones again. Her father - Rudolph Brown, who Kaye talked about his good deeds so often. Her mother - Susan Brown, who loved her grandkids more than anything. Roberta Brown, Kaye’s grandmother, who always showed “the way” and her grandfather, Pope Brown.

For now, Kaye leaves behind three sons, Douglas (Jr.) Hunt Jr. and wife Stacey, Scott Hunt and Frankie Palmer and fiancée Sherri Blackburn; two stepchildren who she thought the world of Dennis (Dee) Palmer II and Tammy Hegarty; an adoring sister, Sharon Lovingood, and brother-in-law, Bobby Lovingood; mother-in-law and friend, Marjorie Palmer of Southbury, Conn., a niece, Melanie Manuel and her husband Shane; a nephew, Allen Lovingood and his wife Claudia; her first grandson, Derek Hunt; a sweet granddaughter, Summer Wright; and two angels in her eyes granddaughters, Kayla and Jordan Hunt; two great-nieces, Mallory Lovingood and Adrienne Armino; one great-nephew, Addison Armino; friends, Helen Pilkinton, Martha Richardson, Shelby Keyser and many more. Kaye had numerous friends and family, too many to list them all. We hope those omitted understand.

Kaye was a great writer, an artist in disguise, a singer who wanted no audience, a collector of sorts, a homemaker with no equal, a nurturing mother, a loyal wife, the best “Nana” a grandkid could have and forever and always a bright and guiding light.

A graveside service was held Sunday, Feb. 11, at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville handled the arrangements.
Members of the Moose Lodge were honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 524 S. State Street, Lexington, N.C. 27292 or American Cancer Society, 4-A Oakbranch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.
