ECHS girls garner
win over Midway

LAKE WACCAMAW - The East Columbus Lady Gators will travel to Kenley today to take on North Johnston in at 7 p.m., second round game of the state 1A girls high-school basketball playoffs.

On Tuesday, Coach Karlyn Stephens’ Lady Gators squeezed past Midway 61-59 in opening round play.

East Columbus overcame a 34-32 halftime deficit to claim the win as Jasmine Young and T.T. Bennett led the offense. Young scored 26 points and Bennett had 20 points and 20 assist. Tabitha Moore added 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Gators put their season record at 15-11.

Kellie Blackman notched 26 points and Joanna Tyndall had 19 for the Midway squad from Spivey’s Corner.

Midway led 15-6 after one quarter, but East Columbus responded with 26 points in the second quarter.
