Chris Wilcox

It will be a homecoming of sorts for former Whiteville High and University of Maryland star Chris Wilcox tonight when his Seattle SuperSonics teams makes a visit to Washington, D.C., tonight to take on the NBA rival Wizards. The Sonics will be out to put a halt to their 12-game road losing streak, which has tied a franchise record. On Wednesday, the SuperSonics played the Rockets in Houston and fell 112-102 with Wilcox being held to seven points and six rebounds, In a Friday home game, the Sonics lost to the Chicago Bulls 107-101 as the 6-foot-10, 235-pound Wilcox scored 10 points and got six rebounds. The Sonics’ season record now stands at 17 wins and 30 losses with Wilcox having made 46 starts in the 47 games. Now in his fifth NBA season, the 24-year-old Wilcox is averaging 12.7 points and 7.6 rebounds this season.

Carlos Baldwin scores 20 points and Tony Wilson chalks up 18 for Coach Glenn McKoy’s Whiteville Wolfpack in its 76-64 Waccamaw Conference basketball victory over the South Robeson Mustangs at Rowland. In the girls game, Coach Kenny Helms’ Whiteville squad takes a 42-29 win with Beverly McCray scoring 19 points and Tonya Jones adding 10.
