Wilcox watch

Chris Wilcox

It has been a busy week for former Whiteville High basketball star Chris Wilcox and the rest of the Seattle SuperSonics as they try to battle their way out of last place of the Northwest Division in the NBA’s Western Conference. On Dec. 23, Wilcox had 12 points and five rebounds in the Sonics’ home victory over the Toronto Raptors. On Tuesday, the 6-foot-10 Wilcox scored 22 point and pulled down 10 rebounds in a 102-94 setback of the visiting New Orleans Hornets. In a 112-98 road loss to the Denver Nuggetts on Thursday, Wilcox was limited to nine points and seven rebounds while the Nuggetts newly acquired Alan Iverson burned the nets for 44 points. On Friday, the SuperSonics fell to the host Minnesota Timberwolves 101-82 with Wilcox scoring only six points while collecting seven rebounds.

Before ringing in the New Year on Sunday, the Sonics defeated the visiting Boston Celtics 101-95 behind Wilcox’s game-high 24 points and team-high eight rebounds. The performance came in his 100th career start. The former Maryland star was 8-of-8 from the foul line as Seattle closed out the 2006 portion of its schedule with a 12-19 record. Wilcox is carrying a scoring average of 12.9 points per game and continues to average eight rebounds per contest.
The Sonics travel to Texas today where they will take on the Dallas Mavericks Tuesday and the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.
