WILMINGTON -- Ola Jane Shipman Tyner, 78, died on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at her residence. She was born in Columbus County on March 8, 1928, the daughter of the late Neil Andrew and Laura Heustess Shipman. She was preceeded in death by a grandson, Tony MacMillian and four brothers, Andrew, Leysane, Sidbery, and John Shipman.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Jan. 13, at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Bryan Calhoun officiated. Coble, Ward, Smith Funeral Home of Wilmington handled the arrangements.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Charles Leonard Tyner of the home; her children, Myra and husband Doug Spivey of Nichols, S.C.; Almond and wife Mary MacMillian of Newnan, Ga.; Sue and husband Joey Whitmore, Tina and husband Danny Johnson and Warren Tyner, all of Wilmington; three sisters, Inez Ward, Laura Neal Horrell and Ann Vaughn, all of Whiteville; 10 grandchildren, Cathy, Kennie, Tommy, Rodney, Chris, Christina, Trish, Robyn, Candy and Charles; 20 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
FAIR BLUFF -- Fannie Grey Priest, 60, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, Wilmington. She was the daughter of the late Waitus and Emily Ellis Nobles.
Priest was a homemaker and member of Cypress Branch Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church.
Final rites were held Saturday, Jan. 13, at Cypress Branch PFWB Church with the Rev. Perry Cribb officiating. Burial followed in the Powell Cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff handled the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Priest of the home; a son, Roy Priest of Fair Bluff; a daughter, Pattie P. Tyler and her husband Mitchell of Fair Bluff; three brothers, Bobby Nobles of Mullins, S.C., Sammy Nobles of Fair Bluff, and Larry Nobles of Chadbourn; and four grandchldren.

WHITEVILLE -- Nora Duncan Owens, 101, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove. She was the daughter of the late Moses Albert Duncan and Maggie Hooks and was preceded in death by her husband, Major Owens and daughter, Jean Marie Owens.
Owens was the oldest member of Western Prong Baptist Church.
Final rites were held Monday, Jan. 15, at Western Prong Baptist Church with the Rev. Warren Hill officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Survivors include eight daughters, Ruth Lane and Linda Leder, both of Whiteville, Doris Huestess of Clarkton, Betty Purser of Raleigh, Joyce Nutter and Lillian Owen, both of Wilmington, Mildred Walters of Fort Mill, S.C., and Ann Rotruck of Raleigh; a son, Mark Owens of Holden Beach; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchldren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
LAKE WACCAMAW -- Timothy John “T.J.” Barrett died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at his residence. He was the son of the late Joseph Barrett and Marion Burke.
Barrett was a retired police chief of Lake Waccamaw. He worked in law enforcement for 20 years. He attended the Presbyterian Church of Lake Waccamaw and was a member of St. Mary’s Church in New York.
Final rites were held Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Northwood Assembly of God with the Rev. David Walker officiating. McKenzie Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Sara Maureen Barrett of Fayetteville and Kerry Barrett of New York; a stepdaughter, Emily Lynn Blood of Whiteville; two sisters, Mary Jo Batchelor of Baldwinsville, N.Y. and Patty Meehan of Oswego, N.Y.; and his former wife, Rose Etta Barrett of Lake Waccamaw.

FAIR BLUFF -- Edward James Strohman, 58, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville.
He was a native of Iowa and was a United States Army veteran and was a retired welder.
Final rites will be held Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Fair Bluff Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Lundy officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Cemetery. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife; Marjorie T. Strohman of Fair Bluff; two brothers, Dwayne Iverson of Wallingford, Iowa and Lloyd Iverson of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Connie Olsen of Wallingford, Iowa and Leanna Shapull of Emmittsburg, Iowa.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the funeral home.
BLADENBORO -- James “Jimmy” Kinlaw, 65, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007. He was a farmer. He was the son of the late Craven and Ella Kinlaw.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Sandy Grove Baptist Church with the Reverends Jerry Beck and Jimmy Strole officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include three brothers, Brady Kinlaw of Bladenboro, Hubert Kinlaw of Elizabethtown, and Delbert Kinlaw of St. Pauls; and a sister, Hilda Faye Hall of Elizabethtown.

CHADBOURN -- Judy Jones died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at Duke Medical Center, Durham.

LAKE WACCAMAW -- Ruth D. Arnason, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was the daughter of the late Fred Derouin and Charity Everson and was preceded in death by her husband, Allan T. Arnason.
Arnason was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross of Evergreen, Colo.
Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter Mary Ruth Edwards and husband, Harry Lee of Lake Waccamaw; two sons, F. Walter Arnason and wife, Joyce of Centennial, Colo., Charles A. Arnason and wife, Rebecca of Blackstone, Va.; a granddaughter, Erin Ashley Arnason of Bloomington, Ind.; and a grandson, Allan William Arnason of Winter Park, Colo.

CHADBOURN -- Thelma Todd Godwin, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was the daughter of the late Joe W. and Aline Burney Todd and the widow of Joe Lee Godwin.

BLADENBORO -- Grace Evelyn Russ, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late George and Either Hood and the widow of Thomas Clyde Russ Jr. She was preceded in death by a son Thomas Clyde Russ III and a grandson.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at the Bladen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Nolley officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Bladenboro.

SHALLOTTE -- Welton “Bodie” Bodiford, 82, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Autumn Care Nursing Home. He was the son of the late Clarence and Willa Bodiford.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the Inman Funeral Home Chapel, Tabor City. Burial will follow in Myrtle Green Cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

WHITEVILLE -- Richard Alford Hinson, 76, died Sunday Jan. 14, 2007, at his residence.
Hinson ser-ved in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, member of the VFW, American Lefion, Son of Confederate Veterans. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Jackson Hinson whom he was married to for 56 years; a son, Michael Hinson and wife, Lori of Bolton; a daughter, Tounya Whittington and husband, Paul of High Point; four grandchildren, Michael Scott Hinson, Brian Hinson, Kohen Whittington, O’Neil Whittington; and a sister, Lois Hinson Hardison of Carolina Beach.

TABOR CITY -- Chappell William Green, 88, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at Loris Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Rev. Gabriel E. Green and Sarah Johnson Green.
Final rites were held Sunday, Jan. 14, at St. Matthew A.M.E. Church in Tabor City with the Rev. Onita Dupree officiating. Burial followed in the Columbus Singing Union Cemetery, Tabor City. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Green of the home; a son, Julius C. Green of Queens, N.Y.; and a brother, Grover Green of Sanford.

TABOR CITY -- William Glenston “W.G.” Booth, 80, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Loris Hospital. He was born in Horry County, the son of the late Fred and Zellie Norris Booth. He was a Korean veteran.
Final rites were held Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Inman Chapel with the Reverends Hollon Norris and Steward Norris officiating. Interment followed in Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Booth of Tabor City; a son, Ricky G. Booth and wife Penny of Tabor City; a daughter, Darlene McDuffie and husband Billy of Clarendon; five grandchildren, William McDuffie, Alicia McDuffie, Donovon Todd, Ricky Booth Jr., and Ryan Booth; and a great-grandchild, Madison Stanley.
BRONX. N.Y. -- Chephus Johnson, 62, formerly of Fair Bluff, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, there.

CERRO GORDO -- Margie Ann Gerald died on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, New Jersey.
Final rites were held Saturday, Jan. 13, at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, Cerro Gordo with the Rev. Ronald Alford officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Tabor Memorial Garden, Cerro Gordo. Francis Funeral Home of Philadelphia, Pa. and S&L Funeral Home of Fair Bluff handled the arrangements.

OLD DOCK -- Adalene Babson FormyDuval, 77, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was born March 29, 1929, in Brunswick County, the daughter of the late George Warren and Florence King Babson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Foy FormyDuval, her soul mate and best friend.
FormyDuval was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church where she taught for many years, and until the time of her sickness, sang in the adult choir. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. But most of all, she was a witness for the Lord, whom she longed to be with.
Final rites were held Sunday, Jan. 14, at Palmyra Baptist Church with the Reverends Oscar Hullendar and Eugene Evans officiating. Burial followed in the FormyDuval Cemetery, Nakina. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Hilda Ward and husband Freddie C. Ward of the Old Dock community; a granddaughter, Tammy Ward Suggs and husband Jeff Suggs of Wilmington; a grandson, Jerome Ward and wife Michelle Ward of Old Dock; three great-grandchildren, Michael Suggs of Wilmington, and Chandler and Brieleigh Ward of Old Dock.
