The Whiteville High boys basketball team put an end to a six-game losing streak Friday night by coming away with a 75-73 victory over North Brunswick at the WHS gym.

The win put the Wolfpack’s Waccamaw Conference record at 1-4 and season record at 3-10.

Jermaine Best stepped to the forefront for the Wolfpack to tally 22 points, including five 3-point shots. Nur Abdullah turned in a strong inside game to finish with 21 points. Aaron Clark, Chris Grant, Alex Royal and Ramel Godfrey each had eight points.

Coach Tyrone Frink’s WHS squad held a 35-26 halftime lead before North Brunswick scored 29 third-quarter points to gain a 55-52 lead. The Wolfpack scored 23 points in the final quarter to pull out the win.

North Brunswick, which saw its conference record fall to 4-2, was led by Sanders with 19 points. Robbins had 13 while Bress and Balloon added 11 and 10 respectively.

The Whiteville girls team improved its conference record to 5-0 by defeating the Lady Scorpions 60-21 with Paige McCallum scoring 32 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

The win was costly for the Lady Wolfpack as senior point guard Talena Faison suffered and ankle injury early in the third quarter and had to be removed from the game. Faison had scored 12 points prior to the injury.

McCallum hit four 3-pointers for the Lady Wolfpack, whose season record is now 14-1.
