Gator teams take road wins over S. Brunswick

BOILING SPRING LAKES - The East Columbus High boys and girls basketball teams each came away with victories over Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference opponent Friday night.

The East Columbus boys ran their conference record to 5-0 with a 68-53 win over the Cougars and the ECHS girls pulled out a 46-42 victory.

B.J. Patrick led the Gator boys’ win with 22 points, followed by Jerry Moore’s 19 points.

The Gators led at halftime 34-25 and held a 54-37 advantage after three quarters.

Joey Hines was high scorer for South Brunswick with 22 points. The Cougar’s conference record fell to 3-2.

Sophomore guard T.T. Bennett led the way for East Columbus in the tightly contested girls game, scoring 20 points. South Brunswick took a one-point lead into the final quarter but the Lady Gators went on a 17-12 run in the final eight minutes to secure the win and put their conference record at 3-2.

The South Brunswick girls, who are now also 3-2, were led by Drema Feguson’s 12 points.

East Columbus, which is the defending Waccamaw Conference boys champion, will play host to Whiteville on Friday.
