Stallion girls get win
SCHS boys fall in double-overtime at Trask

ROCKY POINT – A barn-burner.

The host Titans of Heide Trask got two free throws by Kimani Hill with two seconds left in the second overtime to escape with a 79-78 Waccamaw Conference boys basketball win over the South Columbus Stallions.

South Columbus, which held a 41-40 lead after three quarters, got a career-high 33 points by junior forward Derrick Clay. Frederick Bryant added 18 points for the Stallions, whose conference record slipped to 0-5. The Stallions are 3-11 for the season.

Coach Nathan Faulk’s Stallions played the Trask squad to a 60-60 deadlock at the end of regulation and the score was knotted at 69-all at the end of the first overtime.

Hill paced Trask scorers with 22 points, and Montez Farrior had 19 as Trask put its conference record at 2-3.

The South Columbus girls team improved its conference record to 2-3 with a 41-23 victory over the Lady Titans. Coach Brett Burroughs’ Lady Stallions built a 21-11 halftime lead and took a 32-28 lead into the final quarter.

Amanda Dowe scored 17 points and Kelly Strickland bucketed 10 for the Lady Stallions.

The Trask girls, who are now 0-5 in the conference, were led by S. Smith with 14 points.
